I took my Canik Rival apart yesterday and now I can't get it back together. Caniks have take down catches which get pulled down and then the slide moves forward about an inch and then gets pulled up to remove the slide. The slide does not get moved all the way forward to be removed from the front of the gun. Well, when I was reassembling the pistol I started the slide onto the frame from the very front. My mistake. Now I can't remove the slide at all. Can't pull it off the front and can't slide it all the way back to where it should because of the ejector. The slide will move forward and back about one inch but won't come off. Any ideas what I can do?

I could take it to me LGS where I know them pretty well but don't want to look like the dummy that I apparently am if I don't have to.

Any help will be appreciated.

Update - I finally got the slide off by playing with it some more. I don't know what I did differently the last time, but it's off. I don't think I'll forget that the next time I reassemble.

I spent my entire Firearm usage life not taking ANY gun to a Gunsmith. Not for a single problem. Since the late 90’s, I’ve researched & taught myself. When a problem came up, I was online learning how to combat the issue. You do that, with an actual drive to learn & gain knowledge for 25 years, and not much surprises.

We live in a world where the answer to any question is at your fingertips.

Be thankful for that. I believe it beats the other option. :D

I know what you mean. I now place the owner's manual on the table when I go to work on some firearms that I seldom disassemble to make sure I get it right. I started doing so when I managed to put the slide back on a first generation Walther CCP years ago incorrectly. It wouldn't come back off and was pretty much stuck where it was. I fiddled and twiddled, cussed and fussed to no avail until it suddenly came off. I still don't know what I did to make it release. It went back just like the manual said and worked right but I learned a lesson.
