I just bought a new springfield XD-40 caliber, Mine is the 4" service model and I was wandering how you guys that have them like them and how well do they shoot for you. What factory ammo seems to shoot the best in this gun? I haven't shot mine yet but here are some of the loads I had my dealer order me: Remington 165 grain golden saber, Speer Gold Dot Personal Protection in 155 and 165 grain. Also has anyone tried the corbon jacketed hollow points in the 135 grain load? I have never owned a .40 caliber before so I'm not really sure what grain bullet this caliber seems to shoot the best but from looking at the ballistics from all the manufacturers the 180 grain loads seem to have the least energy. Thanks.

I bought one just before Christmas. So far I like it just fine. I shoot Wally World White Box and handloads. No problems. Shoots where I point.

I've had an XD-40 for about 3 years as my primary carry gun. I shoot handloads in mine for pratice, using 9.5 gr of Longshot,155 gr Berry bullets and WSP primers in Winchester cases. This is a "hard Ball" load @ 1300 fps out of my 4" barrel.

I carry 165 gr Winchester SXTs, they opened up well in my testing.

Good luck.

congrats on the new purchase and welcome to the xd family. i absolutly love mine, mine did break on me and that i believe was a fluke and in no way does it change the way i feel and see xd's. they are great handguns, mine is accurate more so than me, i have fired all types of ammo under the sun through it. lead, reloads, wwb, umc, blazer brass and aluminum. and the list goes on and on, it has been reliable as anyone could ask, yes it did break but any machine can do so and it is in the process of being repaired right now by sa. i have 4230rds through mine with zero weapon related malfunctions. other than the breakage, i have been pretty hard on that poor gun though! you made a great choice. have a good one.

Within the next month I will be purchasing my first XD .40 cal. I have owned other .40cals in the past, mostly SIGs. The round I found to be the best in all the guns was the 165gr Hydra Shok's. Fed everytime, fired everytime, ejected everytime. It is the round I will be using for carry. For practice, I will just have to shoot and see. Good purchase, and good luck!

I have three XDs, the SC, Service and Tactical models, all 40 caliber. Most of the time I shoot reloads, 165 gr RNFP Rainier plated bullets with AA #5 powder. I did have an issue with the Tactical when I used FP bullets, it did not want to feed reliably, but changing to RNFP solved that. For carry purposes I have been using Winchester 165 gr SXT for some time and am pleased with them. Other than the feed problem I mentioned with the Tactical, I have had only one other feed issue, and it was due to a bent mag. I've put somewhere around 5500 rounds through the three of them now with no other issues to speak of. Accuracy has been good with any round I have tried.

Tactical XD40, 180 Golden Sabers were my duty load. Any 180gr bullet through it feed great and had a nice push. Very accurate weapon. Wish they would come out with a 22 conversion kit for it!

I haven't found anything mine wouldn't eat. I've used Hydra-Shok, Winchester SXT, Silvertips, 135gr. Cor-Bon Pow'R Ball, and a few I can't remember. I use Fiocchi FMJ for the range. I tried WWB but it seemed dirty to me so I never used it again. Everything fed just fine, and it fired just fine too.

When I ask my local gunshop about ammo, they always recommend the 135gr Pow'R Ball. I think they do that just because it's probably the least likely to misfeed, and with a bullet that light you're pretty much guaranteed some serious penetration. Personally, for carry I'd probably go with 155 or 165gr, and for HD I'd go with 180gr, just to reduce penetration a tiny bit. Right now I've got 165gr Hydra-Shok's in it, but when I'm out of those I think I'm going to use Silvertips, just because I like them in my 357 (and they're cheap). I like the Winchester SXT's the best out of anything I've tried, but that's completely non-scientific testing. ;)

Supertec, you bought an awesome pistol. I've owned my XD-40 since 2002 and its been 100%, no malfunctions with a variety of ammo. Its very accurate, 1 ragged hole with 40 rounds at 20 yards, gotta love that. I shoot 165 grain Rainier's in mine, with 6 grains of Unique, its a good, mild target load. I load mine with 155 grain Winchester Ranger's for personal protection. I'm sure you'll love the gun, they are awesome.

By the way, you might want to look into the pro-mag 20 round magazines. I have bought 2 of these for mine, they have been 100% reliable and only cost 20 bucks. Hard to beat that.

redneck,
i use the 165gr rainiers in mine as well you might want to try 5.0 gr of power pistol, i have found that that is the most accurate rds i have loaded for mine, and they are more accurate than any other rd i have ever put through the xd service model. they have some bump to em but they are accurate as all get out! btw i have had great luck with that unique load as well!
