If we can do a 10mm in an auto why not a 357?

the 10mm is a little hotter than the 357 closer to a 41mag not qiite but closer

175 gr Silvertip 10mm is actually faster than the 175 gr 41 mag Silvertip. BUT the 41 mag Silvertip always was marketed as a mid-power 41 mag.

Either the 10 or the 41 Silvertip will get the job done.

.32 ACP is rimmed, but those guns usually suffer from rimlock only occasionally, so the rim probably isn't that big a deal.

The .32ACP is a semi-rim, and its easy to get rim lock, just alternate load FMJ and a nice short JHP in the magazine.

38 super predates 357 magnum

Ah-ha! So then the .357 magnum was obviously an effort to get .38 Super performance into a revolver! :p

Yet another reason to get a micro .380 over a micro .32, I guess. Though candy striping your carry load makes very little sense.

I want a modern 7.62 tok chambered handgun as well. I have Tokarevs and CZ52's but I'm not 100% pleased with them.

What about that wildly successful 9mm Winchester Magnum? Wasn't that supposed to've been pretty close to exactly what the OP originally asked about (a .357 equivalent autoloader-friendly cartridge)?
a 357? Say one with a rebated rim and web?

Boy the .357 Sig doesn't get the love, eh? Sure it's not the .357 revolver cartridge in its full potential loading but then again it can be used in a concealable platform.

The 9x25 Dillon is like .357 SIG's daddy. lol!

Like others said, if you want .357 Magnum equivalent in a semi-auto, use 9x25 Dillon. Correction on the highest FPS: The 90 gr. can fly in at 2100 fps, from DoubleTap. I'm sure if you load you own, and hotter, it'll be pushing 2200 to 2300 fps. We're talking rifle velocities here. From a 6" barrel, that is. ;)

Yes, their 125 gr. hits 1700 fps.

And again, yes, as others said, for the heavier grained rounds, you'll want to switch back to DoubleTap 10mm. With a 6" barrel firing DoubleTaps' 200 gr. WFNGC, you're looking at roughly 1430 fps, and around or over 900 ft. lbs. energy.

Ted Nugent loves his 10mm Glock 20... for a reason! :D

I've read one guy loading his own 10mm rounds, and said he got his to fly in at 1830 fps (tops), and 1810 fps (average); I believe he was using 135 gr. bullets for such velocities. That's some hot stuff. ;)

True. I am getting a Glock 33 for the smallest .357 SIG platform I can trust... for my backup to my Glock 29 (10mm).

But, if you can conceal a Glock 29, then you have concealable 9x25 platform, since DoubleTap also sells 9x25 barrels of 3.78" length for the Glock 29, as well. ;)

The .357 Magnum in an autoloader doesn't make much sense these days unless you want one just for the sake of wanting one, which is ok. The .357 Sig launches a 125 gr. bullet within approximately 100 FPS of a .357 Magnum. It does it in a smaller package too. It's not that the Magnum won't work, it's just that unless you are shooting heavy bullets above 125 gr. you won't see any practical advantage over the Sig.

I shudder to think how much more 9x25 Dillon would cost compared to the .357 Sig; that would be in time spent reloading or actual greenbacks...

Looks like about $5.00/50 if you compare 357 Sig and 9X25 from Double Tap.

Since the bullets are so similar, and both from a widely available caliber, reloading would be a trivial difference in expense.

With the powerful and accurate 10mm available, WHO NEEDS a .357 Magnum semi-auto?!

T'aint 'bout the need, Def. 'S 'bout the WANT. :neener:

LAR Grizzly .357 hasn't been mentioned on the first page. That was a sweetheart.

Oh, and I do have the love for the .357 SIG.

Any cartridge that does better through windshields than .45 ACP to the point that the Texas Rangers like 'em is fine in my book.

The latter [.357 Maximum] has never been and will never be chambered in an autoloading handgun.
never say never somebody will just cause.
I think it has something to do with OAL and keeping the grips usable by human hands.

Mike

Well

What would be the point? That's more or less what the 10mm is, a rimless autoloader cartridge that has similar velocities and somewhat similar bullet weights.

EDIT: Look into 9x23 Winchester.
