Looking for some suggestions here. I am in the process of buying a Sig X-Five and the front and rear sights are just plain black - no dots or white outlines.

I would like to improve the visability of the sights. I don't think I can swap the sights out without machining the slide - and I don't want to do that.

So other than painting the front sight with nail polish or paint, it there any techniques to put a nice white dot on the front and two on the rears?

Any pictures of results people have achived with their sight art would be outstanding!

Thanks in advance!

Sights that work, both in the day and at night

No pictures, sorry, but I can highly recommend these people:

The same situation with my wife's Sig P232 SL (stainless steel), and the front sight is a clear, tube/glow-green night sight, as are the 2-dot rears, but the rears are removable, and the front sight is part of the slide.

Options from them: Send just the slide, the can replace the rear Stainless steel sights, with black, 2 dot, white/glow-*orange (personal preference for separation of rear and front sights, glowing at night, making it real easy and fast to get front sight on-target) and re-drill the front, if it is possible, putting in a new white-dot, glow green, painted black, but it will come back black, with green glow, if not drill-able.

Like you, yours being all black, her sights are all stainless steel, and the small, clear, night sights glow ok at night, but suck in separation, or getting on the front sight period, without hard, study-time.. no joy.

I suspect, they could drill your sights, put in whatever color combo you want, with just sending them the barrel, and getting it back within 10 days.

Give them a call..

After all, your gun is a long-term investment, and having day sights, along with glowing night-sights, is an investment worth having IMO.

Good luck..

Wall-Mart sells a HIVIS sight, $10, for ehd of a shot gun barrel. I put one on my P-3AT in HIVIS red. I have to go pick my boy up from school right now but will be back to tell you more. :D

You could try glueing on small white dots (look at confetti packs) and painting over them with clear flat nail polish.

Or if googly eyes came that small...

I like lines of different sorts on sights, don't care too much just for dots. If I'm looking for fast, I've found that Testors orange is the quickest in a wide range of lighting conditions.

Don't be too quick to dismiss paint.

I have several guns for which fibre optic sights were not available so I painted the front blade orange. Actually Model Master Fluorescent Red over a white base coat.

You can get White-out in a pen type dispenser. With a little practice and patience you can make a nice round white spot that, at arm's length, looks just like a factory white dot.

A careful mill or drill press operator can use a center drill to divot the sights and you can apply spots just like factory. Car body or appliance touchup paint works well.

Edit to add: I think model or touchup paint works better than the Brightsight stuff. I have some of that, too and it is pretty pastel. Yes, a toothpick can deposit one drop of paint to make a round dot. As with the Whiteout applicator, some practice is required, so don't be bashful about wiping it off and trying again.

Back again for whatever its worth about those HIVIZ shot gun sights at wall-mart. Cost just 10 bucks and can be installed in 10 mins. Used Permatex gasket maker called The Right Stuff to attach to front of barrel just in back of little old black front sight of my P-3AT As for as the rear I used some paint also from WM in their craft dept., Folkart #2241, Apple Orchard Green, $1.00, very bright and easy to see. I know a P-3 is not a target pistol but it sure helped with my old wore out eyes. I can`do pics. yet but this looks real neat and helps alot. I saw it done on another Kel-tec. site and would share that with ya`ll but I`m not sure if that is done here, I don`t want to brake any rules. By the way the # on that HIVIZ sight is FL2005R, that permatex stuff really keep it in place. :)

Stop!!!

Quote: Hmmm - just found these guys:

Cheap enough so I ordered it. But I am thinking a tooth pick might just be the trick to put a dot on easy .
--------------------

I've got the complete set from them, including extra brushes and stick applicators, as well as the extra white, green, and yellow, glow paint, to add, if you want to make them glow as well, including 2 extra bottles of their cleaner application before you paint your sights, either, white, green, red, yellow, orange, 3 months old.

All new in the box with instructions, only used once, green with green glow, yellow with yellow glow.. 99.9% still full.

All can be yours for 40.00 and I'll ship them to ya.. PM me.

Just so you know, first couple of times you simply wipe your gun and touch your painted sights, (even after 48 hours to dry without doubt) if you paint over exsisting glow only white-glow green sights, your perfect painted new sights (the color) will fall off.

It may hold on non-glow white, or just black bars.

Yours for the taking..

Ok, if you say so. Many of you may already go there. KTOG.com see page 4 under HIVIZ for P-3AT at bottom of page for now. Really neat Mod. for a P-3AT shared with us from another KT fan.:D
