I'm looking for info on an older side by side shotgun. It's a 16 ga with No external hammers (not a rabbit ear).

Marked:
Riverside Arms Company
Chicope Falls, Mass US
Patented April 20 1915

The left barrel is marked: 16ga

The only other markings I've found are on the forend (not visible with forend on gun). Both the wood and the metal are marked with what I assume is a serial number. 893XX

Seems to be in great mechanical condition. I'd say finish is 60% to 70%. A little surface rust, but mostly just worn blueing.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Riverside Arms was a trade name used by Stevens for their less expensive guns 1915-1930. There are no serial number vs year charts to pin down its time of manufacture.

Found this:
Riverside was a brand name used by the J. Stevens division of Savage Arms around 1940-1960.
Riverside Arms Co was in business in the late 19th and early 20th century. This company was acquired by the Stevens divisio of Savage Arms sometime prior to WW2. I have a Riverside hammerless flatback 12 ga with a patent date of 1915, still a shootable gun. I have a friend who owns a Riverside with hammers, it also is a shootable gun. I have a 16 ga. double with external hammers pat. feb. 10 1914 still shoots, however it is chambered for 2@9/16`` instead of 2@3/4``.

"Riverside" was a brand model shotgun produced by the J. Stevens Co. (which was bought out by Savage in 1920) - These were utility grade double barrel shotguns manufactured between 1877 and 1988.
