Bersa .380, Kel Tec P11, Springfiled XD compact or a Glock 26

I have recently aquired a want for another gun and am thinking on the four mentioned. In order to purchase the Glock or the XD, I would sell one of my guns I dislike - a Walther P-22. What would be the best for CCW and realibility? I have come to the conclusion from reading other posts here and other forums that Kel Tec will take care of any problems(regarding my P-32). I do intend on doing some range shooting with one of them. Thanks for the help!

First of all, you need a 9mm or .40S&W anyway in my opinion, you already have a small pcoket size pistol in the 32. So, out of the hanguns you mentioned, I would go with a small 3" XD-9. You can put a Wilson mag on it with an extended finger grip and thus be able to get your third finger on the grip. I have large hands and it fit me pretty darn nice when I handled one with it. I carry a 4" XD-40, it rides very closely up against my hip and side and is very easy to conceal while being comfortable as well. Get a nice quaility holster and you'll be in like flint with the smaller 3" XD-9.

Regards,

;)

I would go with the 3" Xd as i dont like the feel of the glock .. but if you like the glock see if you can shoot them both and see what you like.

I own a Bersa Thunder and like it quite a lot, but I agree that if you already have a P-32 you have the small-caliber spectrum covered. Because of that you might want to consider going with something with more snort than a 9mm. I eventually plan to get a Glock 36 as my primary carry gun and the Bersa will be a backup gun.

Well, you state that you want to CCW it and take it to the range....

Personally, I would not get the Glock. Many like them, personally I do not like them... Just my honest opinion....

The Kel-Tec I hear is reliable, but can be a bit of a bear to shoot....

The Springfield is nice, but it is a 400.00 plus gun (and requires the removal of a member of you gun family).

The Bersa is well regarded, reliable, and from what I hear fun to take to the range... Not to mention the 200.00 price tag....

I think that the choice is obvious....

BERSA THUNDER and you too can join the Bersa Cult.....

(BTW the Bersa is next on my hit list.....)

Good CCW and fun range gun is a tall order.

I've only two I'd consider really good for CCW and fun at the range for 200-300 rounds, neither is on your list. -- Kimber Ultra Carry .45ACP and Kahr P40 .40 S&W. I like the PM40 better for CCW but its a bit small for much more than 100 rounds at the range.

Great carry gun but no fun at all at the range: S&W Scandium .357 or Taurus total titianium .357 2"" snubbies. Taurus is significantly cheaper both under 16oz fully loaded. S&W ~$550, Taurus ~$350

Great range gun but not so good CCW CZ75B 9mm for cheap shooting. About $370.

Don't agonize over it, you'll buy 'em all eventually :)

Edit: RAMI's are very new to the US. Could be a very good choice, but I've not handled one yet. In any case, the longer sight radius of the full size CZ75B will make for better shooting at the range. Then again my favorite range gun without a doubt is a 1911 45ACP -- Big holes easy to see where I'm hitting, but ammo costs for .40 and .45 are significantly higher than with 9mm.

rami's are nice...miine is on the way as we speak:D

however with what you mentoined I would go with the Springy XD-9 compact

I love mine!!!!!!

my girlfriend calls before she comes over now...she came over one nite and I was sitting in the dark lovingly stroking my XD-9compact..my preciousssssssssss:D

azrael,

How do you like it for CCW? It seems comparable to the Glock and my Taurus 605 .357 for size. I usually pocket the snub, but with larger grips it is tight.

I plan on purchasing the "Tuck This" holster from Desantis for whatever auto I get. I now am leaning on carrying an auto instead of the revolver (just a personal preference - carry more rounds, faster reload). I only shoot .38's out of the 605 anyway. I might sell the 605 since I don't have a lot invested in it.

Keep the Taurus 605 snubbie! (or trade it for a lighter titanium model) I think you will find any of the guns on your list harder to conceal except maybe the Bersa (or 9mm P11), but I'd never carry a .380 in a gun that size and weight as plenty of more powerful options exist. Kel-Tec P3AT is my "have a gun" gun, and the only .380 I'd carry. Its light and thin enough that as long as I'm wearing anything more than a speedo I've no trouble carrying & concealing it.

I seem to end up carrying my SC360 snubbie the most because its by far the lightest of anyting more powerful than the P3AT.

The Kel-Tec P11 will likely be the easiest to carry & conceal of the guns on your list, but I'd rule it out as a range gun because of the trigger and sights. If you buy a Kel-Tec, know going in that too high a percentage need to go back before they function 100%, but Kel-Tec service in my experience has been outstanding (as has Kahr's).

Easy to conceal in a hip holster likely means he wears a jacket/coat and never has to take it off or dresses like a rapper with very baggy too large shirts untucked. This is most definitely not my lifestyle. Take what you wear into account when someone says "easy to conceal" as pocket carry requirement rules out lots of great guns.

Since you have a snubbie I'd advise the SA XD if you don't like the CZs but definitely look at them before you decide.

RJ likesguns,

Mine carries very well...I wear mine in a pancake "prototype" that I am working on (no name for it yet!) and it works fine....I just wear a little bit longer shirt than normal or a light jacket...

I use XD-40 mags for it as my spare...gives me 15 rounds to play with...

The Desantis is a good rig...I just hate synthetics for obvious reasons:D

The full size CZs make very nice range guns... among the nicest available. You already have a perfectly good CCW in your XD and a smaller XD would likely just move your current XD to more safe duty.

Of those you list, if I had nothing, I'd get the Glock or the XD. Though it is a fine gun to carry in a pocket, or pocket holster, I've never found the P11 to be an engaging gun to shoot and I can't see taking a step backwards in power for my primary CCW though the Bersa is also a nice gun.

Honestly, I don't think you NEED any of the guns you've listed so I'd just get the one you wanted the most. I like the full size and compact XDs roughly as much as the Glocks, but for the SubCompact XD vs the G26, the G26 feels much more natural in my hand while the XD feels even more top heavy and blocky than the mid-sized SIGs.

Of the others mentioned here, I've only handled the RAMI... seems like a neat little piece for people that refuse to own a poly Kahr but it's about 80 percent heavier and larger in every dimension.

Honestly, when I think of range guns, I think of larger guns that are super easy to shoot. When I think of CCW guns, I think of lighter weight guns that carry well and often aren't super enjoyable to put 250 rounds through at a single sitting. I'd figure out if I would rather have a new CCW gun I could take to the range or if I wanted a range gun that might not see much comfortable CCW duty.

:)

How about handling all of your choices and let your hand decide which feels the best for you. No one can tell you that part. What feels great to one person is horrible to the next.

if you have a gun in your collection you don't mind getting rid of, i would also look at the kahr pm9...it's a ball of fun at the range as it comes with an extended mag for the range, and it's real compact for ccw(9mm). just another opinion....
