Hey guys there is an Intratec Tec9 in a local shop for $269. Are these things decent guns? Common problems with them? What is a fair price?

I like the looks and feel of them and shot one once but never owned one myself.

usually around $300 for great shape one. It's a range toy and I wouldn't bet my life on one. Also they were caught up in the first AWB in the 90's so the price might go up on them again if there is a second AWB.

What other guns do you own? What is it's intended purpose? I think everyone so far is in agreement, range toy, cool points with the G crowd, wouldn't bet my life on it. Keep saving, there are lots of better options for a little bit more money.

They're unwieldy, they jam, and they're inaccurate.

That being said, it's a piece of history. I say grab it.

I already own 25+ firearms ranging from $75-$850 so this thing would just be for messing around.

As long asyou have more serious guns for defensive purposes, I say buy it. You probably won't lose money on it, especially if an AWB is put into effect.

I had one for a few years that I got as part of a trade. It left my life as part of a later trade.

It was absolutely reliable, and would even feed empty cases from the magazine. The mags are the same as the Swedish K and used to be cheap and plentiful, but not sure if that is still the case.

It was as accurate as any other handgun I've ever owned, just awkward to hold on target and had a nasty trigger. Big and heavy compared to a "normal" handgun; I never really figured out how I was supposed to hold it, or what I was supposed to do with it.

Biggest problem was the rear plastic receiver cover disc thingy. They liked to crack and break; I always wanted to make a replacement from aluminum but this was years before I had my own lathe.

With Glock 33 round magazines available, the Tec 9 kinda became even less relevant to real life and more obsolete.

As far as betting my life on one, I apparently don't go into harms way as often as the typical internet user. You did not mention any imminent or voluntary tactical/apocalyptic situation in your post so you might be OK buying a gun just to scratch your "itch".

I shot one in full auto once, it has to be one of the most accurate pistols I have ever shot. Probably a fluke but that was my experiance. We ran hundreds of rounds through the thing with only a couple of jams.
