I was at my somewhat local gun shop this morning, Metro Shooting Supplies in Maryland Heights Missouri, and noticed two fellow looking a little out of place.

After a little while one came over and said they were a film crew from France here to shoot stories about the Ferguson Missouri Protest and Riots. They asked if I'd be willing to go on camera. "Sure why not, I said". They asked what I was buying today and what did I think about all the gun sales increase because of the civil unrest? I offered my opinion was if they can pass the BG check they should be able to own firearms for sport or defense. Did I feel threatened by all these folks buying guns they asked? No, not at all I said and I hoped that at least some of them would get involved in the shooting sports I added.

Off camera I asked if they had ever shot any guns and one of them said he'd fired a shotgun twice. Next question I asked was do you have a couple of hours? The answer was yes, so it was off to the Benchrest Shooting Club of St. Louis for some fun.

We had to stop by my house on the way to load up with toys. AR-15, 12 Ga pump shotgun, .22lr revolver, 9mm XDm pistol, .22lr 1911, 45ACP 1911, and a Henry pump 22. And ammo of course. While at the house I demo'ed my Dillon 650 and Mec 9000G.

We went to a smaller bay and I planned to shoot the plate rack as that's always fun. At the range we started with the S&W 617. I shot first and then they each fired two cylinders. We then switched to the XDm 9mm. They did well for folks who've never shot before. Knocked those plates right down from 20' or so.

Shot the 12 Ga with bird shot at the plate rack next. I demonstrated and they each shot 10 rounds or so. They really liked that.

Got out the AR 15 next and explained how all that worked. I demoed a few rounds and they each shot a 20 round magazine. They liked that just fine too. They not only shot video for their story, but took lots of photos with their phones as well. I'm sure those are already on their way to France.

We didn't get to the 45 or any of the other guns as it was just too hot and I wasn't feeling too well at that point.

We talked about the 2nd amendment and how it didn't grant rights, but was supposed to prevent the government from taking the rights we had as human beings.

All in all I think it went well and the video/story might be broadcast Friday. He's supposed to send me a link to the website and I'll post it here when I get it. The show's called "Le Petit Journal" so maybe I can find it without a link.

I hope I did well, but I suppose that they can edit the footage to make me look bad. Here's hoping they don't.

my hat's off to you, garystl. hope they came away from this with a postitive understanding of second amendment rkba.

murf

I'm hoping that when they get back home they'll need a "grinectomy" as Adam Savage says on Mythbusters.

Good job! I, too, hope that it's presented fairly in the final cut.

Very good

Way to go Brother !.

Seldom have I ever met a newbie that shoots and is then still anti-gun !.

Fact is I don't ever recall that happening ,shooting makes pro gun SHOOTERS of all that I ever took out.

I do keep it light and as real as I can,no magnums and no macho B.S.

Bet if you can find their stuff [ try youtube ] you will be happy.

One of my favorite activities in the shooting field is taking people shooting for the first time. There is nothing like the face after someone pulls the trigger for the first time.

It was great fun. I just wish the weather was cooler. I'd wanted to shoot some clay birds as well as the 1911 in both 22lr and 45.
Maybe they'll come back some time. One of the St. Charles MO leos I know was there as well. They did talk to him, but not on camera.

They kind of kept harping on "aren't you concerned or scared with all these folks buying guns?" I was born at night, but not last night. I kept emphasizing that they have a right to own firearms and that I upheld their right to do so. Steve Knight who owns Metro Shooting Supplies did the same in his interviews as well. He said he had white, black, Hispanic, and Asian customers and he served them all.

excellent story, glad they walked into you. had the time, the firearms and the will to teach.
good job!!

Le Petit Journal is one of the oldest newspapers in France. Correction...it is now a news program as part of Canal 1 (Channel 1). No relation to the old newspaper.
