Is keeping "1 in the chamber" a bad idea??

Why? Because if you have to ask, you're somehow inferior to someone who does?

I asked this question a while back. I now carry with one in the chamber as a result of asking the question. It's why I asked. Do you think that I shouldn't carry like this because I once asked the question?

In regards to safety - it's BETTER to ask than to not ask. That's how you get to be the most informed, and being most informed about safety is a good thing.

What everyone else said. That GP100 has a transfer bar, no need to keep the hammer down over an empty chamber. It won't go bang unless you pull the trigger.

For me, it seems the time most of us would be most vulnerable to a ND would be if you needed to grab your handgun when awoke in the middle of a deep sleep. Think about reaching into your bedside handgun safe or on top of your night stand and grabbing your weapon. Is it always in the same spot/orientation? How clear will you be thinking when startled in the middle of the night? Is it holstered or the trigger covered in some way to protect you from accidentally grabbing at the trigger? That is a bigger consideration for me than dropping my gun.
