I got the bug for a 357 again, but want to keep the price down, "just in case I am not actually in love with it". I saw the Taurus 617 online for a decent price, is it a good little gun? I would leave it by my wife's side on her nightstand, probably with 38's in it, but still be able to shoot the 357 if I chose to carry it. They make a 5 shot "actually a ton of 5 shots", the 605, which is also in the running, but I figured why not get the 7 round gun instead.

I have a 607, which is the same gun but blued (now discontinued) with a 6.5" barrel. It is very accurate, and I have never had a bit of problem with it in the 12 or so years I have owned it. It has thousands of rounds through it, almost all full power handloads. It still locks up as tight as it did when new. I don't know if you have handled one, but it is a very large gun, not something to consider as an EDC. It is about the same size as a S&W 29 .44 magnum, which makes it very pleasant to shoot IMO. The ported barrel does increase the muzzle blast a lot, especially with light bullet magnum loads.

I have a 617 and a 605. I have carried both. Being heavyer the 617 is more fun to shoot 357 ammo. I have it in my carry rotation. The Wife used the 617 with 38 special for training and CCW quolliffication. She has claimed the 605 for her carry gun. It's loaded with 38+p 135g. Gold Dots. Both are good guns. If I carry the 605, I carry it IWB with Corbon 357. The 617 has Corbon or Federal classic 125g 357 Ammo. I can't remember and I'm too lazy to go look.

I have both the Taurus Mdl 605 and 617 and can attest that they are fine guns. The 605 is my wife's EDCG and the 617 is mine. We have shot THOUSANDS OF ROUNDS in both guns w/nary a hiccup.
