Just got second rifle, Mosin Nagant 91/30

Just got a very nice condition at the gun store. Came with a sword bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, and some vintage leather ammo pouches that fit on the belt. I will have to buy ammo later at a gun show, I guess.

I'm just looking up the markings and it seems to be the from Izhvesk factory. The original markings go like:

U in a circle, Soviet sickle and hammer, P
1930r
square with vertical line dividing it in half
Serial number in the 50000s range
Square with diagonal line from top-left to bottom-right corners
Triangle with arrow inside (which indicates it's Izhvesk, I guess)

I guess the 762x54 forums are the way to go but I have to get approved first. And I've been lurking around THR for way too long.

I paid $140 for it, so I hope I didn't get ripped off. I would just like to know where to get more information on my particular rifle and I can't wait to go shoot it.

EDIT: There is a Century Arms marking on the left side of the receiver as well.

I'm also on a payment plan for a Century Arms milled Polish AK-47. I can't wait to get my hands on that again.

Just got a Mosin at Cabela's, on sale for $99.

Take a look at 7.62x54r.net, there's a wealth of information on these rifles there. For example, the square with a diagonal line is an Arms depot/refurbishment mark from a Soviet facility located in Ukraine. The square with a vertical line (it may be a "T") is another refurbishment mark.

I took the stock off my rifle and found MANY more marks - I think every Ivan who touched the rifle put his mark on it, probably to prove to the local commissar that he was doing his duty for the glory of the Motherland.

a 91/30 with a 1930 date is an AWSOME find!!! Round reciver'd?? or does it have facets, a "Hex" (really rounded octagon)reciver? they used the 'hex'(~LOL!~) untill they ran out sometime in 1933, as they brought Round recivers into full production.

The [/] indicates it was brought in to spec with a trip through the arsenal to touch up and repair, then brought into sight, cleaned, swacknsmaked with all sortsa mysterious stamps and marks, then varnished, cosmoed and forgotten in a crate under a crate under thousands of more crates , awaiting WWIII but awakening free to Free men in America, and the new start in the shooting world ......

You cant help the importers mark, its part of the mysterious markings, 'cause theres no good reason for the ATF to mandate such graffiti............

Haha, I just watched Enemy at the Gates and I actually perfectly understand what you mean.

caribou, the receiver is an octagon shaped receiver. The rifle is in very good condition besides the cosmoline. No very obvious damage at least. I was worried about getting ripped off since people talk about getting Mosins for about $50.

I have got a Tula MN carbine with 1937 stamp, but no import marks. I got it several years ago for 25 bucks from neighbor, he had got it as a kid when he worked at a filling station for a tank of 26 cents a gallon gas and never fired it.

It was bubbarized with a Lyman front ramp sight. I put a scout scope on it and is my truck gun that gets rough usage, made a lace up riser cheek piece, has a very good bore and it is very accurate with cast boolits.

50 buck mosins are gone several years ago. unless you get a parts gun.

Nice work, Comrade. Another one joins the Nagant club. They are fun rifles that work well for a long time. They are bit heavy and the bolt can be a tough throw. However, they are definitely some of my favorites.
