That is a great looking Hi-Power and one heck of a deal.

My Hi-Powers bite me also and I was not shooting them as much as I would like so this past week I put in a Cylinder & Slide No Bite hammer. It completely eliminated the hammer bite. You might give one of those a try.

Mr. Williams,

Per the s/n you supplied your HP was mfgd. in 1989 which was about the time that MK III's came out. These had cast frames for additional strength. You can tell the difference by looking at the bottom of the frame if it is smooth it is the older forged technique if it is ribbed it is cast.

This is a cast frame of a MK III

Here's a couple of pics of grips on my HP's to give you a few ideas.

Thanks for the info and pics.

Mine doesn't have those grooves on the bottom so it must have just missed the cut.

Due to the fact that I picked up a second HP I had to go with inexpensive grips from www.handgungrips.com. I got the Ultima Panel with Low Profile Checkering in walnut.

I'd love to get some Esmeralda grips, but I need to keep my expenses low for awhile, maybe this Fall I can spring for some really nice ones. I'd also love to buy a set of her 1911 grips, I'll probably order those along with the HP ones. Right now she doesn't have any HP ones available anyway, so I'll have to be patient.

PS: I love the grips on that middle one!

Check out Hogue rubber grips if you want a great grip on the cheap. Mine had the Pach's on it when I bought it and I hated them. A thumbrest on both sides, what's up with that? Very uncomfortable.

Hey wardog, do you also post over at the nforcershq forums? Anyway there's a "wardog" over there who's helped me many times with my NF2 and NF3 computers so thanks if that's you!

"...still want to get some nice wood grips..." Lots of 'em around. When I was in the Queen's Service, 30 years ago, I looked into ivory grips for my Inglis(watched 'Patton' too many times). Found a place in Upper New York State that made them. Then found out it was illegal to import elephant ivory. Walrus or mastadon is fine. There are polymer fake ivory grips available now too. No money for silliness then or now.

Sorry, didn't see this reply until today. I've actually got a C&S "no bite" hammer and sear on the Detective High Power that I carry. Haven't put one on my Mk3 yet, but I might.
