Went to a gun show. Looking hard at a bunch of 22 hand guns. I decided to purchase the Walther P22 Target. I got the Military style w/ the extended barrel piece. I paid 269.00 for her.

Not sure how reliable they are, but from magazine reviews they seem to be fun plinkers and pretty accurate. I actually got it more for the wife when she is out on the range w/ me.

It will probably be picky with ammo. Most P22s work well with CCI Stingers. For bulk, try Remington Golden Bullets. Ask for those by name, not just Remington bulk pack, or you'll get Thunderbolts. Don't use those unless you like cleaning lead out of your barrel. CCI bulk pack and Federal Bulk pack have all worked pretty well for me also. Have fun. I love mine. So do my kids, 8 and 11 years old. And, it makes for a great first gun to introduce people too.

Well I purchased a 500 bulk pack of the PMC Sidewinders, which i hope will work, If not, I do have couple 100 rounds of the goldens,

Thanks 4 the heads up!!

I just picked up the two barrel set at a gun show for $325 too. So far it's been great fun. Shot 250 rounds of mixed mini mag and Rem. bulk pak and 20 stingers. Don't waste your money on stingers. Be sure the screws are tight on the front barrel weight when you shoot. Mine loosened up a bit. Have fun.

USP9,

Thanks for givin me a heads up on that. I was 'not' sure if I could just buy the p22 and get the xtended barrel later, but the dealer said they were not sure. I would of only saved like $30.00 if I was not to get it, but what the heck, right?

Can't wait to shoot it (the wife says)!!

BTW,,,, looking to get a weaber scope mount. Anyone here use this?

A scope rail??

Forgive me for asking but I've read many posts about the P22 and even shooters who like the gun do not rave about it's accuracy - which I interpret to mean consistancy in point of impact from shot to shot. If the gun is not consistant just how is a scope going to really improve things? Or is this more a matter of looks and attitude?

Its an accurate hand gun from what I read. Now the scope or reddot should improve over the 25 yard mark (I hope)

I have the 3.5" version and really like it. I can also verify the comments of others regarding Thunderbolts. I shot a 500 round box of Remingon Whitebox and had a reasonable number of failures. These were usually caused by the bullet either being a complete dud and not firing at all or the bullet not producing enough recoil to fully rack the slide. The gun was also extremely dirty afterward. When I shot 200 CCI Stingers, I had zero failures and the gun looked almost as clean at the end as it did when I started. .22LR is cheap enough that it just isn't worth the hassle of shooting crap ammo.

The P-22 is a decent little plinker, once the bugs are worked out.
Some of them are reported to work just fine from the factory. Mine didn't....

Eventually, I found that mine likes Remington Golden .22 HP's, only if I keep it VERY clean and lube the bottom of the slide. I tried Dry teflon Lube, but I finally settled on a dab of "Slick 50 Teflon" bearing grease.

Apparently, the slide has a tough time cocking the hammer and that is a known issue with Walther. Heard they are coming up with a fix, it might be as easy as polishing the hammer face and slide bottom...

For some odd reason, my Chamber seems to gum up rapidly and needs a good brushing every 200 rounds or so. It also tends to stutter on a full magazine so I only load 9 rounds.

The Accuracy is ..... so-so, not very consistent, but well centered.

Once I got it working reliably, it became fun little pistol to shoot. My wife keeps it handy for defense, but I make sure it is absolutely spotless and properly lubed before handing it over to her.

Nice gun - congrats.

U can buy a new follower from magazinepart.com to make the 10 rounder into a 13 round mag!

I really like mine, I bought it used and it works great. Mine likes the Federal Auto Match bulk pack that Wal-Mart sells. It runs about $9.00 for 325 rounds, which is a little more than the cheap bulk pack but it runs fine and shoots pretty accurately.
