Hi all,

just picked up my new 941, the 22 magnum in 4" barrel.

Not sure how I got so infatuated with the .22 WMR cartridge, but I've been wanting to shoot it for months and finally found a good deal on one of the few pistols that come in that caliber.

Anyone got any experience with this one? I am a big fella, 6'4", so I didn't opt for the snub.. figured I could hide away the 4" well enough, and then I'd have the accuracy improved as well for plinking...

I didn't want to blow a whole lotta dough on a gun for this cartridge, but I suspect the Taurus is decent for the money..

trigger pull is a real load, but single action you just breathe on it!

anyways, just wondering what you all thought of this gun. I'll take it out this weekend.

I've owned a Blued, 4", Model 941 since they came out, several years ago. The DA pull is heavy, as in most .22 revolvers, but has lightened and smoothed markedly over the 500 round mark. The SA pull is extremely light and crisp in comparison.

Clean and lube the revolver thoroughly before shooting. Tighten any screws, and use decent ammunition. I often wonder why people buy rim-fires, then complain about their accuracy, all the while shooting the cheapest ammo that they can find.

Mine has been reliable, and accurate. Like any other rim-fire, they have definite likes and dis-likes in ammunition.

well, I gave it a good bore-scrubbing with patches and then oiled it at standard spots.. cleaned out cylinder bores too.. the factory 'storage crud' is a bit gummy and brown..

I took it out today, noticed the roughness of the DA pull right away.. hard to hold your target when squeezing the trigger is like driving down a bumpy road with the parking brake on!

But it hits some nice groups at 40-60 feet.. I'm not an experienced shooter but I was seeing groups inside six inches at 60 feet standing up, almost that good one-handed, DA and SA mixed... I think I need to try moving the windage a bit, everything was a hair right of target..

I will look forward to a smoothing of the DA pull after another few boxes, went through 100 rds today... but SA you are dead right, just breathe on it, nothing soft or wobbly, just a nice gentle snap..

And good grief I love the BOOM of the .22 wmr.. seems almost as stout as my .38 sp. I was also breaking in my wife's new S&W 317, the airlite .22.. my big heavy steel 4" barrel Taurus bucked WAY more than that little snub airlite did shooting high velocity Rem Golden Bullet .22LR... the magnum round is a different world..

what is your recommended brand/make of ammo? I don't have a lot of choices, but the copper jacketed Remingtons are local for me.. I can order online once I know what I want.

Thanks for the encouragement. Love the gun. Glad to hear I can forget about a gunsmith trigger job... :)

The rimfire guns need a stout hammer spring to assure primer ignition. The DA pull therefore will not be as light as one could make on a center fire gun of the same size.

That said, the gun will smooth up with usage, and some lighter DA pull can be had by reploacing the trigger spring on these guns. Sometimes one can get by with a slightly lighter hammer spring, but I wouldn't count on it.

I own, and have worked on both the 94 and the 941's . For the money I find them to be very good guns. Many complain about the DA trigger pull on these, but you have to recognize the limits of the RF guns for this type of action. Smoothing/polishing of internals can also be done by those familiar with the action, but just shooting them will help settle some of that roughness.

My wife can't pull the DA at all on this gun. Lucky for her I got her an S&W 317 with a very much lighter smoother pull. I think the price gets you the quality in terms of smoothness and balance.... and Taurus being cheaper, it's not quite so well engineered..

but that's okay with me! I can pull it, and if I need to hold on a target I'll just cock it first.. :) single action is light as a feather and crisp, very nice...

and that BOOM is SO out of character for .22, a really comforting feel... I read somewhere that the single-shot stop rate for this cartridge is very near the .38 sp, that it's a much better SD weapon than ppl think. even in a revolver the muzzle velocity is gonna be 1500 fps or so with 30 grain bullets..

I think I"ll just leave the side plate on and let it polish itself over time.. even new, it's just not that bad. :)

The .22 Magnum is quite noisy in any handgun. I've had people ask me about my ".357 Magnum revolver" at ranges. They're amazed to find that a .22 Mag is so loud.

I have a couple of .22 Magnum revolvers. My 941 likes Winchester JHPs, the standard fare. I have a Ruger Super Single Six that loves the Federal 50 gr ammo. I also have an old H&R revolver that thinks that CCi Maxi-Mags JHP make it a targert revolver. Fixed sights and all.

The 941 has adjustable sights, use them to set POA/POI. I'd also try Maxi-Mags, and the Winchester standard JHP.
