Hello all,
I am a reloader and owner of a new Kimber Eclipse Pro Target II 45 acp. I am using a Dillion 550 press, new +P brass, Hornady 230 grain HAP (XTP), and Power Pistol with Windchester large pistol primers. Anyway, this is what I have on hand to load with. From what I have read, a sweet load is 7grains to start and would appreciate any feedback on this amount. The 7 grains did not say if they were using +p brass or not. Secondly, the manual shows a maxium length of 1.275 where as is see factory ammo is a little shorter. I saw one person who loaded down to 1.220. Anyone have good reloading advice for me using this pistol as I am confused because 1.275 fits the clips and 1.220 seems a little short, but just might be the great length for the Eclipse?
Thanks,

Take the barrel out of the gun. Make up a dummy round (no powder or primer) at 1.275" OAL, taper crimp it at .471" and see if the round will drop into the chamber fully and drop out. If it does not seat fully in the chamber without any help, reseat the bullet a little deeper and try again. Once you find an OAL that will drop into & out of the chamber, start with that. I have loaded the HAP bullets as short as 1.185 without any feeding issues.

Once you have an OAL that passes the drop test, load a couple magazines' worth of ammo and shoot them for actual function. I would start with 6.5 gr of Power Pistol, then 6.8 gr, then 7.0 gr. Lyman shows 7.2 gr max @ 850 fps. BTW, you don't need +P brass for normal 45 ACP loads.

Welcome to the forum.
