I have a pre war[sn 4 digts] Win M70 in 30-06 that I would like to have rebored/rechambered to .358 Norma mag. Now before you have a fit, it was rebarreled before I got it with a 1960 super grade barrel, so has no real collector value. I wonder if any of you have any input on who I should have do the work.

You don't rebore the barrel you would put a new barrel on it in 358. You would have to open up the bolt face to fit the the larger case. This would be looking at $600 worth of work. Wickens gunsmithing Mt.

why not rebore? I want to keep the original contour. The M70 has a sight boss that would leave a gap in the barrel channel if I rebarreled. The link dclevinger provided said $450 for a rebore/rechamber.

I would have to do that with a new barrel anyway. I have 5 30-06's. I Don't need 6, and a .358 Norma would fit in perfectly with the terrain I moose hunt in.
I have some experience in this.I had a 1917 Winchester rebored to 35-300 Win 30 years ago, but the stock broke so I can ether get a new stock or rebore the M70.
