Lee Perfect Leak

All three of my Dillon's have leaked small ball powder's, it is just the way it is. The Dillon's are very good, but will leak. Despite what the Dillon ad's say, they are not perfect.

Back when I was using a Lee PPM, it leaked all over.
I bought a Uniflow & that stopped.

Yes, that's an expensive fix, but I'd REALLY rather not have powder all over.
It be way too easy to ignite.

If your PPM ever worked with H110 without leaking, in the past, you don't have a problem with your measure. You got one of the really good ones. Trust the rest of us, here. :)

I could probably get mine up to H110 level, but I'd need to buy a more aggressive grinding compound. With my polishing compound it would take hours to get to all the low spots where a H110 spec could squeeze it's way in, even using my drill adaptor.

It's much easier to polish away the high spots. When you're left with little depressions, here and there, you have to grind away 95% of the surface to get those out.

Considering how small W748/H335 is, I'm happy my PPM's work with those ball powders just fine and leave the H110 for dippers.

H110 is just an annoyingly fine powder. I've read "Lee is crap. My X brand measure never leaks" many times. But with H110, specifically? That's the question. If you think your measure is perfect, try H110 before you toot your own horn. You might be disappointed. Pouring fine sand-like particles into any type of precision machinery is a gamble.

So far, I'm counting only one endorsement for H110, being the Chargemaster.

My PPM leaked AA#7, the finest powder I've used. Disassembling, cleaning, and liberally dusting the insides of the rotor with graphite, then tightening it down good solved the problem.I don't know if it would pass the H110 test, though!

Sand is coarse compared to H110 :p

I dont think my lee is crap- just wondering what finally caused it to let go.

So, who regularly uses what powder measure with H110, with NO leaks ?

RCBS Chargemaster :)
I rarely use manual dispensers since I bought it. No leaking and it works with all powder types. It is more money but worth it.

you think thats bad, try some AA#7. when i was trying to use my PPM with #7 i could drop 10 charges and have enough powder on my bench to load the 11th! h110 leaked so bad i could hardly turn the drum, no matter how tight or loose the screw was. finally i got an RCBS uniflow and never looked back.

problem solved.

*UPDATE*

Just for the sake of this thread, i went and ran a full hopper of h110 through my uniflow to check for leaks. just as i expected, there was not a single one and it ran smooth as silk. i would highly recommend this measure for the fine powders.

When my Dillon wouldn't work with H110 I started using a Bonanza Benchrest measure. No problems at all. It measures accurately and never has leaked even a little bit.

Leak

welcome to lee reloading equipment owndership.
Not just Lee, I have a Redding Match Grade 3BR measure....it leaks the fine powders.

Solution? Don't use fine powders, or use a dipper when using fine powders.

Or maybe just put up with the leaking.

Nothing made by man reaches total perfection.

My Lee measure had the same problem. I bought a Lyman measure and haven't had a problem since.

It's not just powder measures for metallic cartridges that have problems with H110 or any fine grain powder. I reload 410 shot shells with a MEC 600 and get leaks when using H110 and Winchester 296.
