I have an Officer's ACP (Series 80) which had feed problems. It would occasionally jam with JHP's, and also occasionally fail to feed. I read about the recoil spring plug "ear" shearing off, which disables the pistol, so I got an Ed Brown reverse plug FLGR parts kit.
To install this, you mill (or file) around 0.100" off the back end of the recoil spring tube on the slide, to provide clearance for the new reverse plug flange. The redesigned plug has no ear, so the slot for it remains visible.
I did this myself, with a certain amount of trepidation, but the end result was fine.
I also slightly increased the size of the throating, which was limited to the bottom 1/3 of the chamber.
Jams stopped and fail to feeds were much reduced. They went away entirely when I replaced the Colt magazines with McCormick magazines, which use Wolff springs.
Of course, I couldn't leave well enough alone, so I replaced the mainspring with a lighter one, replaced the firing pin with a titanium one (and heavier spring), and replaced the trigger with a short magnesium trigger.
My wife loves it now. (And I can't get it away from her. That's what's wrong with working on "leetle 1911's" -- sometimes someone else likes them and then you lose them!)
