I've made up my mind and informed the CFO (wife) that I'm buying a .50 BMG rifle. With so many choices out there how does a guy decide which one? I'm currently leaning towards the AR-50 and that super pricey Nightforce scope everyone raves about. I don't want to spend more than say $4K overall, including optics. So whatcha got? Anything to avoid?

If you happen to be selling a .50 drop me a line.

i bought my dad a Serbu BFG .50 after a friend got one.

The gun is worth the price and is a lot of fun. Even the full-sized one is comfortable to shoot from the shoulder. Serbu's customer service leaves a little to be desired though. (Nowhere near what you'd expect from bearcoat or anything, just mildly annoying)

The AR-50 is a great gun, at a great price. It is long and heavy, but that really helps tame the recoil. Of the AR-50, LAR, and McMillan, I think the AR-50 has the mildest recoil.

The main downside to the AR-50 is that the chambers are long-throated which means it'll be hard to load close to the lands. You can fix that when you rebarrel in a few thousand rounds...
