I just shot a precision rifle course with one of the military technical advisors from the recently released to DVD movie, "Shooter." The movie stared Mark Wahlberg.... an entertaining movie.
To my point, Garrity the instructor and former Marine sniper, recommended using a fix 10x power w/mil-dot for distance shooting. I've always hunted w/Leupold scopes really like them. I've been looking at the Leupold's Mark 4, M3, 10x that the instructor recommended, however with the "Tactical Milling" reticle rather than the "mil-dot" reticle (Note: I have a mil-dot Mark 4 on my Sabre Defence AR-15 competition rifle).
Do you think the diffence between these two reticles (learning both systems) would be confusing or not? (for those who have used other sight/distancing reticles)
Also, others have said that I should go with a Night Force or a US Optics scope, still others say I should go for a veriable scope power... Since I'm a long time shooter but new to the long distance rifle courses (out to 600 yards --- some 1000 yards,) I need some help. These scopes are a lot of $$$$ and I'd like to do this only once.
