There is a Dicks Sporting Goods near me and saw this knife in there the other day:

I know Kershaw has a good reputation among knives (I don't know much about knives) and wanted a good little folder for carrying around and taking camping. However, I'm not a huge fan of how KERSHAW is stamped in huge letters all across the side. When I tried to look on Kershaw's website, I could not find this particular knife. Other versions of the Kershaw Leek I've found look much better with Kershaw just printed in smaller letters on the handle not all the way across?

I just want to make sure if I purchase this knife, it's not a sub-par quality knife meant to be sold at Dicks for a cheaper price? It's listed at $50, is this still a good quality knife? Think I could find one similar to this but without the giant stamping across the side if I went to Walmart or something?

The Leek is a nice knife, it's my EDC. Dick's price sucks, you can get it for just over thirty bucks on Amazon. And it doesn't have a large logo.

I have a Leek for my EDC, only I have the lighter color.

This is a great knife.

Yea I ran to my local WalMart and they had it in stock. The black one (one I wanted) without the giant logo across it. So far I'm loving it! Already used it and took it on a short geo-caching trip this evening.

I have two different versions of this knife. I have the straight edge, and the partially-serrated edge, and I love them both. VERY nice knives. (I also have a set of Shun kitchen knives, which are made by Kershaw. Also, very high-quality knives.) Good buy! You'll enjoy it.

It's hard to beat the Leek it's a very proven and popular EDC choice in the knife community.

I've got a Leek and had an Onion, both in Damascus. The blade and grip profile made the Onion come very close to biting me while closing it a few times, so I re-homed it. The blade and handle on the Leek are just enough more streamlined to make a difference when closing. I really like the Leek.

I know you already found it, but here is the page of Leek's on the A.G. Russell site. I got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Russell personally this weekend, and I always like to buy from "people" more than just some company (even if it means spending a few $$ more).

My dad actually has the one with the swirly black and red scales, and I am going to replace them with black carbon fiber with a silver twill CF bolster.

The Leek is a good EDC blade. It is usually the most expensive knife Walmart has in the case.

Got a Leek in my back pocket right now. Love this knife. The steel seems kind of soft, but as long as you realize it's a knife and not a screw driver...

Btw: When you forget it's in your pocket and walk into the ocean, a good soak in Shooter's Choice will bring that spring right back. Ahem, a friend told me this...

1894.... did you open it up and look at the spring mechanism? I opened up Dad's yesterday to start the CF scales for it, and was amazed at the spring. I have never messed with assisted openers, so it was great to see the concept of how the Leek works.

BRad, No I didn't open it. I wanted to, but I don't have a Torx bit small enough and didn't want to spend $20 on a set of tools to work on a $30 knife.

T-Tool

CountyComm (www.countycomm.com) used to sell the Kershaw T-Tool, designed by Kershaw, specifically for knife maintenance.

I have one, and it works great.

Unhappily, CountyComm is currently sold out of the T-Tool, but they do have the MultiBit tool, which has the right sizes of Torx bits. $6.50 each.

A word of caution, CountyComm can be hazardous to your wallet.

:D

For $5.95 earlier this week at Walmart, I got a set of tiny bits from all the tiny torx, to the smallest flat time and phillips, even tiny allens and square bits. Came in a little box with a short handled nut driver to put the bit in.

I'm in the shop right now (playing on the internet, go figure) but when I go inside later, I'll take a pic of the inside of the Leek. I thought it was a coil spring knife, but it's not...

"Mr. Greebly, why thank you for the countycomm.com link," he said while throwing his credit card across the room.:uhoh:

Brad, Looking forward to the pic(s) - and my next trip to Walmart.

The clip broke off my gerber so now I'm carrying a crappy winchester that someone gave me. I really want a Leek but don't have the $ at the moment either... :banghead:
