I have a 16" Armalite AR-10 that is currently wearing a poor mans ACOG (Burris 332). I would like something better. Like not made in China.

This is my "hurricane" gun. Whether it be evacuation or riding it out. And all around fun shooter. Maybe some light hog hunting if oppurtunity arises.

Current set up is pretty standard:

Folding front and rear sights.
YHM suppressor.
Magpul set up with CTR, MOE forearm, MIAD grip.
Burris 332 3 power optic calibrated for. 223.

I like the way it is set up save for the optic. It balances and points well unsupressed.(that will be fixed with a titanium suppressor)

My intended use is to hit 19"X24" size targets out to 500ish yards. Not a bench gun. Quick hits on possibly multiple targets. I don't want to rely on batteries unless its in the aimpoint range as far as battery life and takes a common readily available battery.

Options I am considering are as follows:

Trijicon Accupoint 1X4 with green triangle mounted in Larue QD mount....so far this is my favorite. Flexible, QR to swap to irons easily. How durable are they? I know they are not ACOG durable, but I would like something that can hold up to field use. I like the ability of variable power, how forgiving is eye relief on 1 power? I know its not like a red dot, but is it close?

Trijicon ACOG calibrated for .308, dunno which one yet........well its an ACOG. Its bombproof. I have one on an AR15 and like it. Downside is, I don't think its as flexible as the Accupoint but, its tougher. And the cost.

Aimpoint Comp4 or Comp4s.....maybe with a magnifier. I have one of these on a SBR. Its been uber reliable and its still on same AA battery that's been in it for years.

The one I'm not sure about is the SWFA Super Sniper 1X4. I have read some good reviews on these. I have the 3X9X42 FFP and am really impressed with the quality. How's the battery life? I like the idea that if the battery goes, you still have an optic. Anyone got one of these?

I am open to other options and opinions. Any personal experience with any of these is much appreciated. Also if I am looking at the wrong power or type of scopes lemme know. Any input, as I am new to scoped shooting will help.

I have a 308 lr with 20" barrel and use a 6x18.5 40mm Nikon Bushmaster with great results. Lifetime warranty.

I think that might be a little more scope (magnification wise) that I am looking for. I have a 20" that has a 4X12 on it. Looking for more of a low magnification carbine type scope.

No help with my setup, I'm running a Leupold 6.5-20x40mm LR scope on my AR-10.

If I had the cash to blow on a low power setup I think I would go with the Trijicon TA648-308H: ACOG 6x48 Scope, Dual Illuminated Red Horseshoe .308 Ballistic Reticle with TA75 Mount and M1913 Rail but it sure is pricey!

I have the Trijicon TA31RCO-M150CP: Trijicon ACOG 4x32, ARMY Rifle Combat Optic for the M150 w/ TA51 Mount on an M-4 and it is really sweet They make nice stuff.

I've got the SWFA SS 1-4. Its a great optic for your purposes. Wonderful turrets. VERY clear optics (much much better than the SWFA SS 3-9x, which I own as well), great reticule for 1x or 4x. Super intuitive and fast to use on 1x (nearly red-dot fast). 1.5-2.5x is ideal for practical use at 25-75y, with easy hits on 4x out to 400y+. I can group 3" at 200y with only the 4x cause the glass is so good. I've shot steel out to 450y and its a pleasure to use. Construction is similar to your SS 3-9, but the scope is smaller lighter in general, glass is better, and the turret clicks are closer together.

The illumination is bright (but not truly daytime bright like the accupoint, the SS is more for dusk/night/indoors), but the battery life is not great, and it will die if you leave it on for multiple days. However, the reticule design is awesome and illumination is not really needed during daytime. I've found the built in extra battery compartment in the battery turret cap (on my model at least) to be a saving grace.

I love the reticule design (I've got the circle, but would take a 'T' too). Overall, its a keeper, but watch for the upcoming SWFA SS 1-7x (for more $$)

I know it sounds like I'm a fanboy, but I've tried a bunch of scopes on my AR and this one is really quite good.

keep in mind all the 1-8x and 1-10x type scopes that just got announced means a lot of dudes with 1-4x and 1-6x are going to be looking to upgrade. probably some deals out there

and always check samplelist.com and look at the whole list. i've purchased several high dollar optics on there at really good prices
