I would keep the one I had the most use for. Unfortunately, you didn't provide any information as to what your main purpose(s) is for the pistol (i.e., target shooting, hunting, home defense, carry concealed, range toy, informal plinking, etc.). For instance, if I wanted the pistol to compete in Bullseye events, I'd keep the 1911. If I needed the pistol to carry concealed, I'd opt for the SIG. If I wanted the pistol for target competition and to carry concealed, I'd pick the 1911. And so on.
Mostly range toy.

Getting rid of some stuff because apparently over the years of buying mode has accumulated lot of items and its coming to a point where I cant do justice in maintaining them.

Will trim the collection down and perhaps buy some other stuff that I fancy down the road.

As much as I love the 1911 and consider it the best platform for the .45ACP I still choose a Sig P220 Elite as my daily carry and consider it to be the second best platform for that caliber, keep the 220!

Which one do you shoot better, or carry more?

Custom worked SAs, if the action is glass-like and has been worked to a balance, are hard for me to let go personally.

I just did this same swap/trade with a few and it was difficult to sell some off, but it was worth it. One of my rules: do not get attached to inanimate objects like guns or motorcycles.

The real question would see to be, 'which do you shoot better and more often?'. Sell the one that doesn't rise as the answer to that question....

A very biased opinion: Keep the 1911. but I'm a 1911 guy to the bone, and would not own a Sig at all! :)

Springfield gets the BOOT!

Thank you guys. I kind of knew it all along but wanted to hear some neutral opinions.

Keep the Sig p220- it's classic European made (not Exeter). IMHO, it will likely still hold its value better than the customized Springfield.

If it were p220 vs. Colt, then I might say drop the Sig ... keep the Colt.

Then again, if it were a p228 vs. a cannolli, then I might say, drop the gun ... take the cannolli. :neener:

Seriously though, I have similar decision - its time to thin the herd, and will let go my Sig p220R carry. The p220R lost all my pro/con calculations - I like my 1911s better, and I have several other Sigs in other calibers. And I despise the tactical rail, which is useless to me.

Also the idea of the Sig p227 Compact when they eventually come out, is much more intersting to me than the Sig p220R Carry (it'll be the 45 acp p227 ... but in a p228 size range). That's my grail gun of the moment.

^love the cannolli line.

I do think p220 Elite SS is the way to go in case you get rid of yours.

You should keep the one you shoot better!!
Both are good pistols, but, the Sig would be harder to replace. I have had many 1911s over the years and they seem to be easier to replace.

I'm in the minority, I don't like the trigger reset on the SIG, plus I've also had a catastrophic failure with a P220. I'd toss the SIG in a heartbeat. :)

I always look from a collecting POV when it comes to real metal pistols. Keep thy SIG...
