(Hm. I'm not sure where in the "ammunition" subforums this might go. Sorry, Moderators, if this is not the best place to ask this question.)

I am enjoying my new NAA Black Widow for target shooting that involves the inexpensive .22LR rounds. My only concern is that the bulk-box of Federal brand which am using produces so much smoke from the rounds having unburnt powder due to the short barrel length.

The CCI .22LR seems to smoke much less, but is $5 per 100 instead of $10 per 550. Those are the only two brands I have tried.

Does anyone have a recommendation of .22LR rounds that smoke less from a snubbie or mouse gun? How dangerous is it to be breathing the smoke? The range is fairly well ventilated but the smoke does take a moment to dissipate.

Tangentially, the .22 Magnum rounds I use produce very little smoke, whether from the NAA Black Widow or the S&W 351PD. Are those rounds burning more of the powder or is some other factor happening?

Thanks for any help!

Any premium round like those from CCI will smoke less than bulk packaged plinking loads, because the premium loads use better powders which burn more completely. A shorter bbl multiplies the effect of unburnt powder. Search for a semi-match practice round sold in 500 rd bricks, like those from Fiocchi, Winchester standard Super X (not match), and Federal to slplit the difference in cost.
