I picked this up at a local gun show today:

luger1_tn.gif luger2_tn.gif

It's a non-matching "shooter" Luger. I paid $600 for it. Around here, that's a very good deal. I was told that this was a Russian "re-arsenaled" gun. It was pieced together by a Russian arsenal from recovered German guns during WWII. As you can see, it is in decent shape.

Here's my question. There's a place on the back of the frame that has been machined to accept a shoulder stock. It looks original. Do all Lugers have this? Does my gun have a specific frame for another type of Luger? Lastly, would it be legal for me to put a shoulder stock on this pistol?

Thanks in advance.

All Lugers were milled for the shoulder stock and unless the 1934 federal Firearms Act has changed using a Luger stock with the pistol is a no-no. An original stock is probably worth more than the gun.

If the pistol is a "Curio & Relic" you can install an *original* shoulder stock and not violate the NFA. You can NOT install a reproduction shoulder stock.

Good luck finding an original Luger shoulder stock though. Expect to pay as much for one of those as you did for the gun.

I don't have a comment on your Luger. However, I was intrigued by line 3 in your signature regarding the spelling of ridiculous. I'm 72 and have been spelling it wrong all these years, not that the occasion comes up very often. My dictionary confirms your statement, and I will now go sit in the corner!

Around here, that's an extraordinarily good price for a Luger. Even shooters (non-matching parts guns) seem to be $900 & up around here. They're (Lugers in general) not even seen that often. Most of the time when you see them it's at gunshows and that may be a factor in the (relatively) high price I'm seeing them. I like them, but I just don't have the cash sitting around to start up a collection of guns I can't shoot.

don95sml,

Thank you. Knowing that I could help even one person has made this all worthwhile.
