Has anyone tried using a Lyman lubrisizer on the Lee TL (tumble lube) bullets?
I would like to have my rounds a little cleaner by not having tumble lube on the nose. How would you go about matching a top punch to the Lee 2OG radius round nose? There does not seem to be any data on it available.

Not worth doing it. I tried it once on some .40 cal bullets. Lee tumble lube cast. Problem is the rings are not really that deep that deep at all. Then they are very close together. When you go to size them you almost end up with straight walled bullets with almost no lube rings at all. Totally defeats the purpose of the bullet. Take a few of them and try it out first without worrying to much about the radius

Never tried it, but don't see why it wouldn't work.

The five Lee 2R bullets I see are .32/20, 9mm, .38, .44 & .45 RN.

All appear very similiar to the same Lyman & RCBS molds for those bullets so I think the top punch for them would work fine with the Lee's.

the way I figure it is like this...

I can TL or pan lube or sizer lube a bullet with a traditional lube groove in it.

but ....

you can only TL a soup can.

So I pick the one that is most versatile.

ymmv

and....

I thought the 2R designation for the Lee moulds simply meant it was a two cavity mold.

Lee puts a TL suffix on their soup can molds, do they not?

1R = one ogive radius nose shape.
2R = two ogive radius nose shape.
3R = three ogive radius nose shape.
TL = Tumble lube.

Grizz,

Just get yourself a small container and instead of tumble lubing, dip the base of the bullet without getting the nose wet using a pair of pliers. Then set on the wax paper. Voila, no lube on the nose.

Regards,

Dave

Already tried that Dave, and yes it works. The excess lube is not shared with the other bullets in a thin layer and deposits a thick drop on the drying paper. The LLA is consumed at a rate that is 2 or 3 times more than tumble lubing them. I was thinking that the lube consumption in a regular sizing setup would be more conservative. I want to stick with the LEE TL style bullet, I am getting excellent accuracy with it. Just to be sure I was seeing results that were real, I stopped at Cabelas and bought a box of laser-cast. That confirmed my data. With the laser-cast, I got lesser accuracy, and some lead deposits. I have seen no lead deposits at all with the Lee bullet and the Lee liquid Alox.
