M-16 with CMMG 22LR PDW upper

I was wanting a 22 upper for my M-16 and everyone said CMMG is the company to go with ... so I did. It was more money than I wanted to spend but it was exactly what I wanted ... and everyone knows good NFA stuff isn't cheap.

When I first got it ran perfect in semi but it was frustratingly sporadic in full-auto so I called them up and talked to Justin in the tech support ... He said they were working on a new design collar but it was still in testing. He sent me a new conversion and when that didn't work he sent me 3 new sear trips all with a bit different angle ... One worked better than others but it still wasn't there so Justin said they still had some testing to do on the collar but he would send me one as soon as they were convinced they would work.

I don't know what CMMG did to the re-designed collar they sent but it came by UPS today at lunch time so I had no choice but to take an extended lunch I installed the new collar and the new anti-bounce and sear trip.

I fired 2 mags of Remington bulk 550, a mag of PMC Sidewinder a mag of Aguila sub-sonic and a drum of the Remington bulk 550.

The Remington bulk and PMC Sidewinder all fired flawlessly from the mags ... I shot short bursts, long bursts and one full mag dump.

The drum gave me some issue as I had 4 FTF all were the same issue; there was no round in the chamber, but it did re-set the hammer ... I think the drum wasn't keeping up except with short bursts.

I also had some trouble with the mag of subsonic when the trigger didn't always re-set but it ran 7-8 rounds before the hammer not resetting happened.

There is so little recoil you can draw a figure 8 if you don't run out of ammo! I shot both with and without the suppressor ... it was pretty cool!

I've had good experience with the Remington Golden Bullet in Sig's very picky 22lr upper p226/8 pistol conversions. Much better than CCI SV. Surprising to say the least.

I've tried doing a couple with my phone but it was a huge FAIL

I'll get a couple when I can, I just need to have someone with me ... I've already got 5/25 rnd mags loaded up (2 PCM sidewinder, 2 Remington Golden Bullet and 1 Aguilia Sub-Sonic) so I'm ready!
I wish I hadn't waited until 22LR was $50+ a brick ... It doesn't take long at 650 rounds per minute it should only be about 9 seconds trigger time

When I run any .22 conversions, (my cmmg .22 upper included,) I have much better luck if I run hotter ammo. Bulk pack is always iffy.

When I first got my CMMG 22 upper I was having problems with all ammo including mini-mags ... now that I have their new collar it seems I can run about anything, although subsonic does have problems with failure to feed, at times it doesn't strip the new round from the mag and reset the hammer.

What ammo do you run/suggest?

In the 4th mag, the 2nd mag of Golden Bullet there was only 2 rounds left which is why I didn't mess with clearing it ... but later as I was loading up to go home I noticed the mag had cracked from the top of feed lips down to the body ... I'm not sure if thats why it jambed, it had extracted and the next one round was in pointing up with the last one cockeyed.

When I had my m16 I got a Ceiner <sp> .22 conversion. Expensive but ran good.
