Gentlemen,
This first part is the fact which is:
That as of Sept. 24, 1937 Ordnance had shipped to stores 205 M1 Garand Rifles. This does not count the 80 toolroom model M1 Garands.

The quiz:
In 1937 Winchester ask for advance information on the M1 Garand Rifle. This was in case of an emergency and Winchester was called upon to make ammo for this new Rifle. What was the answer that Ordnance gave to Winchester ?

Thanks, but No Thanks

Hi Clancy,

I read about this one elsewhere. Ordance told Winchester that they can't have a rifle nor even the "advance information".

I can't remember why though. Perhaps they didn't want to release any information until production stablized. This is *very* early in the grand old gun's life

Gentlemen,

The answer to this quiz is as follows:

The Chief of Ordnance Stating " that the development and manufacture of the rifle were too confidential to disclose to Winchester at this time."

It's just like the trouble that Hatcher's book got him into trouble later on.
