With hindsight 20/20 I'm going to look at this as an adventure and not a nightmare. Bought new my marlin 1894 .44 mag, jammed before ever being fired. I cleared it by removing lever and bolt but after reassembly I noticed the hammer would only lock back unless the trigger was forced forward, either by gravity or hand. I took it back to the dealer today and they assured me average time of return is 2 weeks. We'll see........I have learned though from videos online that there is no spring in that trigger ass. So I've ordered the " happy trigger" to install after I get it back.........Also I noticed a lot of tiny filings and sharp edges. Looks like I might have a project right off instead of a ready firearm. Like I said, an adventure. Maybe I'll just pimp it out.

Before you shoot it too much, search for articles on Marlin 1894 jams. There is a quick fix that prevents future problems. Don't ask me why the factory doesn't fix it themselves. Guess they like to sell parts.
