I think they mean "assault weapon," not "assault rifle." At any rate, this is exactly what the anti-freedom crowd has been waiting for.

Oxford, Ohio man fires more than 20 rounds at police with AK-47; killed in standoff
By Ken-Yon Hardy
OXFORD, OHIO | Law officers shot and killed a man Monday after he fired more than 20 rounds from an assault rifle and handgun during a 2½-hour standoff and threatened officers, the Butler County Sheriff's Office said.
Shane Griffin, 35, of 5201 College Corner Pike was shot three times after he walked out onto his porch, raised an AK-47 assault rifle and a handgun, and said that if the officers didn't kill him, he was going to kill them, sheriff's Chief Deputy Richard K. Jones said.
Oxford police officers were called to the mobile home park at 3:30 p.m. to investigate a harassment complaint made by Griffin's ex-girlfriend, Jones said. After speaking with the woman, the officers phoned Griffin, who was in a nearby mobile home, according to Oxford police officials.
An officer encouraged Griffin to meet him at the Oxford police station to discuss the complaint. Griffin refused and hung up, police said.
When the officer went to Griffin's home, Griffin refused to leave and would not reveal the right side of his body to the officer. Griffin then ordered the officer off the property and said he would harm anyone who tried to return, police said.
As additional police officers arrived from the sheriff's office, Oxford, Oxford Twp. and Miami University, Griffin opened fire.
"He was very aggressive, screaming at officers," Jones said. "When he exited, he began firing at officers. We were told people were hiding in their bathtubs."
Officers evacuated the surrounding mobile homes as Griffin continued to fire occasionally during the standoff.
Jones said friends and family also tried to speak with Griffin by phone and by bullhorn. Several times during the standoff, Griffin left his home and walked outside — always carrying a weapon, Jones said.
About 6:30 p.m., he stood in the doorway and pointed the AK-47 at an Oxford police officer. A member of OPD's Special Response Team fired two shots and a member of the sheriff's office SWAT team fired once. All three shots hit Griffin, fatally wounding him.
"The suspect came to the door and made comments of killing police officers or killing him," Jones said. "When you point a weapon at police officers, they are trained to respond with fire."
Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene.
"It was a very tragic situation," Jones said. "We're happy no innocent people were killed or injured."
