Manufacture date of 38S&W top break?

Hello, could someone please tell me the manufacture date of a Smith & Wesson 38 Top break "2nd model" single action spur trigger with serial number 553XX?

I would really appreciate it.

I can only put you in the ballpark:

The .38 Single Action/Second Model was introduced in July, 1877 at serial number 1, and discontinued in 1891 At approximately serial number 62,000 to 63,000 a change was made in the extractor cam in or around 1881.

I would speculate that your revolver in the mid-55,000 range was made around 1878 to 1880 - or perhaps early 1881.
