Marlin 336 30-30: where to get offset hammer spur

I bought a used Marlin 336 30-30 at a pawn shop. It has a scope rail on it, however, it does not have the offset hammer spur. anyone know where I can get one of these? I'll need it when I put a scope on this thing. thanks

Abel: that's a darn good question I am new to this scope thing. Any suggestions for a good budget scope for the marlin 336?

Don't buy crummy glass.

Leupold VX-II is affordable without having any "junk" issues.

Yeah, I agree with the above. Budget glass usually ends up lettin' you down when you really need it. But there is plenty of great glass to be had in the under 200 dollar range. On a 336, I mount the scope as low as possible without touching the rear sight...you can usually fold the rear sight down. Mounting low lets you get a good cheek weld. A 32mm or 35mm scope is about as large as I will go on a Marlin 336. Here is a list of great scopes for less than $200:

Don't forget that there are at least three different ones needed depending on the year your rifle was manufactured. There appear to be pre 1957, 1957 to 1982, and post-1982 variants.

You PROBABLY could also buy that from Marlin if you can't find it anywhere else.
Staying at 32MM or smaller for the scope is good, too, (if you must use a scope) in order to get the lower mounting height. Shooting budd put a 4-12x50 on his Marlin336 and had to use some super-tall 'see-through" mounts. even with that, the front lens just barely cleared the rifle. Looked kinda silly...

I have a 4x32 on my Marlin Mdl 30AW, so mine is not a "traditional" sighted rifle either..but that 4-12x50 looks well silly. Wisjh i had a pic to show you, but I don't.

yeah, good points on the scope. I'm looking at getting a x33mm max. I want a smaller scope that sits low on the gun. I'm at the age where even though I love peep sights, I need some magnification aide in a low power scope. Definitely not looking for super zoom 500yards knats butt type thing LOL - I understand the distance limitations of a 30-30. I want to keep it nice a close range with this rifle.

I have another Marlin 336 question for y'all...

This 336 30-30 I picked up is an older model - it is drilled and tapped on the left side of the receiver with the dummy set screws installed. I removed one of the dummy screws but had to drill out the other one - it was frozen in there and stripped easily trying to unscrew it. So I'm left without a dummy screw. These are tiny things - I'm guessing its a 5-32X3/16". The dummy screws on top of the receiver for scope mounting are 6-48's or something like that. Anyone have any idea where to get the little dummy screws for the left side of the receiver? and, what tap size it might be, as I think I boogered up the threads drilling out the screw. thanks
