I was recently given a marlin 336, SN# 2300xxxxx. That would put it at 1977 built. Anyway, it's all gummed up with dried lubricant and 30 years of neglect. Not rusty, just all gummed up.
I see reference to 336A, 336C, and other such model numbers. This one just simply reads "Mod.336".
2 questions:
If I need to swap parts, do I need to research more re: Model designation (A, C, etc.)?
The scope mounts were drilled/tapped entirely through the receiver, is this normal? With the scope rings removed, I can SEE the bolt cycle through the screw holes. Doesn't seem kosher to me. Should I find some plugs? I do not plan on using a scope at this time, but want to keep the option open.
Thanks all!
