Marlin 60 vs Ruger 10/22

I also have a Model 60. Biggest POS I have ever seen. Even squeaky clean, it refuses to feed. The hammer on the action has both ears that go around the recoil spring broken off.

It worked fine, for a while, but now nothing but problems. Too bad, accurate as hell. I have been meaning to call Marlin about seeing what I can do to fix it. Local gunsmith won't touch it, too cheap.

The action isn't that bad to take apart; I normally detail strip it when I clean it. Gotta watch those "E" clips, though.

I've had a Marlin Glenfield 60 for almost 25 years now, and I'm only 32! I love that gun. It used to jam all the time due to my cleaning regimen. I used to spray it out with solvent and then lube everything. Terrible results. A couple years back, I picked it up again and really looked at what made it work. I tried a very light film of lube and some Riggs +P Grease on the engagement surface between the bolt and the cocking mechanism. Now, flawless performance and acuracy you can't shake a stick at. I have lost a couple of those retainer clips on the action though, so its a little touch and go when I pull it off the reciever....:D

(Note: splitting open the action on one of these is not recomended. And when you pull the action off the reciever and begin pulling out the bolt, watch out for that spring and rod. Yikes! That thing will launch for sure. But you knew that...)

The first gun I bought with my own money was a model 60. I preferred it's looks and capacity. Never missed with it. Back then it had a nicely stamp decorated stock.

25yrs later, I needed to rearm. A friend recommended I buy what everyone else was buying and "hopping up". That means a Mark II, 10/22, 1911, Rem 700. I don't like the looks of a 10/22.

I took that advice and bought two fully hopped up 10/22's. I'm very happy with both. .2" 10 shot groups at 50yds. Also, you can have a whole pocket of 10rd magazines and change them quickly.

How about buying a used 10/22 and slowly adding parts?

Also, I heartilly agree with getting two! You need an extra for taking others shooting.
