With all thats happening in Turkey the last 12 hours the media has been flooded with pics of soldiers and police. I was kind of expecting some variety but it looks like H&K G3's for the soldiers and MP5/40's for some police. I only saw one AK74U and the police looked like they were carrying Beretta M9's as sidearms.

A couple of sources state Turkey has restriction on Semi-auto and FA Riles. That's why you don't see a lot of civilian pics with guns. I also learned open carry of handguns is legal. Didn't see that coming.

The G3 and the 7.62x51mm NATO round is still the standard service rifle/round of the Turkish military. Every other NATO country has switched to the 5.56mm NATO round.

Interestingly, the brand new MPT-76 battle rifle that is supposed to replace the G3 still is going to use the 7.62mm NATO round. They must really like that cartridge.

The Greek standard is still the G3 in 7.62 NATO. Special forces use the M16.

Both Greece and Turkey produce their own G3's under license from H&K.

Yep, they love 'em too. I've talked with some Greek soldiers who said they liked the G3. Up until just recently, Norway also issued the G3 in tricked out AG3 form. Very cool guns with modern handguards, stocks and sights.
