I thought so, so I had it cropped a bit
I like the AC556 look, so I had the barrel lobbed off and a flash hider permanently attached via tig weld to bring the barrel to 16.2" (the .2" just in case ATF's ruler differs from ours). The balance and look of the rifle is vastly improved, IMO. That long, slender barrel just looked disproportionate with a flash hider on it.
The little guy is quite handy now, being fully 6" shorter than my M-15 carbine with it's stock also collapsed. (FWIW, the damned cat just wouldn't move out of the way. Oh well)
I'm quite happy with the result. Price for cut, recrown and welding the hider was $100.
