I thought so, so I had it cropped a bit:D

I like the AC556 look, so I had the barrel lobbed off and a flash hider permanently attached via tig weld to bring the barrel to 16.2" (the .2" just in case ATF's ruler differs from ours). The balance and look of the rifle is vastly improved, IMO. That long, slender barrel just looked disproportionate with a flash hider on it.

The little guy is quite handy now, being fully 6" shorter than my M-15 carbine with it's stock also collapsed. (FWIW, the damned cat just wouldn't move out of the way. Oh well)

I'm quite happy with the result. Price for cut, recrown and welding the hider was $100.

Accuarcy?

Don't know, don't care!;)

On a serious note, I've always heard that shortening mini barrels actually helps, since the slender OEM barrels are very prone to warpage as they heat up. I haven't yet had a chance to play with it, but I'll let ya'll know if it is better, worse or no difference. This particular mini average 2.5-3 MOA @ 100 yards with M193 or 855 ball before. (guess I'll have to put the scope back on for a fair test)

What stock is that, Choate? Any cycling problems with the shorter barrel?

Butler Creek. The 'smith test fired it after the work was done and said it ran fine. We'll find out. I don't expect ther will be any issues, as mini's are way overported from factory. Hopefully the ejection will be a little less violent.

Very cool project. Too bad Ruger doesnt like to make money, they would only sell thousands in that perfectly legal configuration. I guess they'd rather please the dems than us insignificant customers. Very nice rifle again I am impressed.

Sweet! I have one set up like that (minus the shortening and welding). I'm curious to know how much the point of impact changes, because I had to take a file to the front sight on mine.

very nice, that is short alright. thanks for the pics. now you can be a regular on the "A- TEAM" !:neener: no really though i like it.

Pretty cool. I dont usually like the look of modified Mini-14's, but yours is an exception. :D

What capacity mag is that in the AR? Maybe its just the angle that the pic was taken, but it looks freakin huge. 50 rounds?
