Misuse of Gun and Badge?

Police abuse happens all the time, I can believe this stuff happens. Recently in a span of several months, local several officers from different local departments have been charged with sexual assault and kidnapping.

Prediction: The thug-with-a-gun will be coached and say all the right things at the inquest. Internal Affairs will decide that he acted within department procedures and did nothing wrong, much less anything worth a criminal complaint. He might be passed over for promotion once or twice, but then it will all be forgiven and forgotten.
Most likely.:barf:
The seemingly documented fact that he went to the effort of shutting off his camera speaks very poorly.
Why would a cop turn off his camera, unless he had "something" planned? That's what lawyer types call intent.Turning off the camera so as to not record his unlawful acts could be obstruction of justice, evidence tampering or destruction of evidence.

Sounds like this woman is not making it all up - other witnesses coroborated her story. Whatever the truth is, this cop's actions stink to high Heaven. If this woman is smart by any definition of the word, she will sue the crap out of the cop, the department and the city. That seems to be the only language they understand in a situation like this.

So, has the camera footage been reviewed yet?

Also:

Why would an officer ever need to turn off his dash-cam?

That, in itself, should be illegal. I thought that the cameras are there to protect the officer and the subject(s).

Perhaps people should install these cameras in their personal cars

Perhaps people should install these cameras in their personal cars. Ever think of that? I don't know the facts of this case, but I know the facts of a simlilar case, except in the case in which I am witness, there was absolutely NO violations whatsoever. None. In the spirit of innocent until proven guilty, I reserve judgement.

But, safe to say, this police officer should think about the fact that people like me, sit on juries.

I thought these cameras were tied into their lights so if the lights were on the camera was on. If that is the case, if he turned his lights off to shut down the camera during any kind of traffic stop it does not speak highly of his motives.

The other characters that have become involved do not speak highly for the citizen's motives.

Who knows?

My guess is that at some point the PD will clear their officer after some kind of "investigation". I am a cynic about these kind of things. It is near impossible for any agency to fairly investigate itself. LE agencies are no different.

The investigation will almost certainly report out what the brass want it to. If they want a fair investigation that is what will happen. Most politicians do not want to admit any kind of fault, and most police brass are politicians - that is how you get the job in the first place, and they want to stay on the good side of their bosses.

I seem to recall it was his radio that was switched off.

“He clicked the thing back and then he turned off his radio,” said Jasmine. “I was like ‘He’s going to kill us.’”

In any event, that will not bode well. On the face of it, this seems like a potential disaster for ALL parties involved. I will reserve my opinion untill all facts have come out so I will not pass judgement on anyone yet. Either way you slice it, this is gonna be a case of "he said, she said" blah, blah, blah...

I'll let the facts speak for themselves when they become available.

Use the portion of the head not attached to mouth!

I've investigated literally hundreds of complaints on officers in my LE career; sometimes the officer was being "bad rapped" and the complaint was a complete fabrication on the other hand I have seen officers that were totally wrong and had to be weeded out. Usually the truth can be found in the middle ground. I have had an officer and a citizen tell me the same story and the facts were identical, just the interpretation differed. I think that a careful investigation is needed by an impartial body, from what I understand the Municipal Investigations Office is doing the investigation and they are not part of the police force. I can't comment on the political situation in that area, but I know that when we find out that we have a problem we take the "hickey", admit it if we are wrong and try to make sure that we fix the problem and learn from it. I know that the police can't release much info until the investigation is done and if action is to be taken against the officer until that goes it's course they are still unable to say much. On the other hand every well-meaning person, fool with an axe to grind and etc. will be playing for their chance to stand in front of the camera. That's why cops buy antacids in the large bottles.

No insult intended, none at all. However, it was your argument that used the race issue first, by naming only black americans when you said "or is he stirring the proverbial pot like many of these wack jobs (Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackass, Malcolm X, Louis Farrakan, etc) tend to do." Perhaps it was not intentional, but it read that way, so perhaps you can see why I felt your comments were racially grounded.

Further, you went on to state "The whole incident smacks of an episode of "The Shield," where Mackie and his cohorts are being targeted by a Black Muslim group because they are shielding a bunch of drug dealers. Only this time, the way I see it, the Muslims are the thugs, and the police the target." .. again, race playing a central role in your point. Then you toss out accusations of criminal conduct without having any statement of fact as to the truth of those allegations. If you're going to attack someone's character, at least make sure your guns are loaded. Otherwise, why bother?

BTW, why would you take seriously a religion that only allows one race? Whites not allowed, hispanics not allowed, asians not allowed. Blacks are allowed, as long as you are truly black, no mulatto. Farrakan and his "Nation of Islam" are racists and bigots, plain and simple. Stop one on the street and talk to them, I GUARANTEE it will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth...

had you bothered to read any of the articles about this Jasiri X character, you would have found that the NOI is not what you portray it to be.

Still, says X, the movement is needed. “Our youth understand the power of unity,” he says. “They’re getting together in what’s called gangs.”

X worked at the East Liberty “E-Fest” on July 9 as one of the more respected hip-hop acts on the billing. After his performance, a dozen middle-school-aged kids with blue and red bandanas faced off. It looked like a riot was about to break out until police intervened, ultimately shutting down the entire festival. X wishes the intervention would’ve come from a different source.

“There wasn’t enough of us there as concerned black men,” says X, the shadow of his gray wool cap covering his eyes. “There were just three of us on hand.”

“Us” are X’s brethren from the Nation of Islam. But as the kind of racial discrimination that triggered Black Nationalism has become more covert, so too has the “whites are devils” messages that once emanated from NOI. The NOI still concentrates its rallying efforts on black communities. However, they’ve recently begun opening doors to others to participate in the Millions More Movement, scheduled for October 14-16, in Washington D.C.

It’s not just blacks this time,” says X. “It’s also Latinos, Arabs, Asians and even poor whites who’ve been oppressed.”

Have another stab at the arguement if you like, but I'd suggest actually reading the references I posted first so that you have a clue before you argue. I'm not a Muslim, I'm not Black, Asian, Latino or even oppressed, but I do tend to keep an open mind and try and refrain from forming the same ignorant stereotypes and exclusioinism that I claim others have. Might want to look into this subject further for your own benefit.

I think we're done, you and I.
