There is a guy with a fancy 22/45 and a threaded barrel that wants to trade for a non fancy 22/45 or MKIII.

I talked to him about a possible trade, but I have some questions for you all.

1. I'm remembering uppers can be swapped between the MKIII and the 22/45 correct?

2. Like an AR, the lower receiver is the actual gun? So shipping these uppers is no big deal?

I'm not super familiar with the custom MKIII world, what can you guys tell me about that barrel?

While you've gotten your answer...

For later readers, be aware that it is not the same as an AR and is a rather big deal...depending on where you live.

The upper receiver of a Ruger 22/45 is the registered part...the gun

I could have swapped uppers no problem. Just not through the mail without getting ffls involved.
I'm in a free state so no liberal registration to worry about.. The issue was possible fit issues.

Most swaps require tinkering and the odds our two were the exception was not worth each of us taking a 3 hour drive.

You were still treading on a legal minefield.

A three hour drive across state lines for a FTF swap of pistol receivers would be a federal violation no matter how you cut it.

To be legal, the other guys receiver would have to be sent to a FFL in your state.

Then a transfer done there following the ATF form and instant background check.

And yours sent to him the same way.
