I have one of these lovely Remington Model 788 in a .222 caliber. :neener: I bought this rifle used about 12 years ago. I loved it, it could put 3 rounds of the cheapest stuff I could find touching each other @ 100 yards.

But I had to put the hobbie aside for about 10 years, so I had to put the rifle in my mom's basement, where the barrel began to rust without my knowledge. So last month I went and picked up my 2 rifles (the other is just a cheap old SKS) and I almost of died of shock. :banghead: :(

So I dropped it off at a local shop he is going to check the barrel and action. My questions are:

1. If the all is good but exterior blue what do I do? (Re-blue?, duracoat?)
2. If the barrel is no good? (get a new barrel, where, how much?)

I am assuming the action is fine... (I hope!)

Thanks for the insight!

If it has light rust that has just wiped out the blue, reblue.
If it has heavy rust that has pitted the outside too deep to polish out, Parkerize or Duracoat.

If the bore is rusty, a good new barrel is going to cost.
