I tested 3 pistol loads and 3 223 loads, the 223 loads didn't go as planned, lol. I don't know if I was too close to the Chrono, but I got some wild velocity readings.

The pistol loads:

9mm 124 grain Berry's RN, 5.4 grains Unique......1) 1129 fps, 2) 1117 fps, 3) 1113 fps, 4) 1133 fps and 5) 1131 fps.

40 S&W, 155 grain Berry's RN, 7.5 grains CFE-Pistol.....1) 1197, 2) 1201, 3) 1190, 4) 1194, and 5) 1197.

Hodgdon show's 7.8 grains as max with this bullet and 1232 fps....that's pretty much right on.

40 S&W, 155 grain Berry's RN, 8.2 grains Longshot.....1) 1187, 2) 1194, 3) 1190, 4) 1195, and 5) 1193.

223 50 grain HP, 25.3 grains IMR-8208....1) 2869, 2) 2889, 3) 2881....the other two readings were way off the charts.

223 50 grain HP, 26 grains AA-2460, 1) 3008, 2) 2995.....the other readings were in the 3500 fps range.....no way is that accurate.

I forgot to mention, these were fired from a 16" AR.

yup, too close to the chrony. the 3500 fps reading is the clue. i test all my pistol and rifle loads @ 12 feet from the muzzle. this, or you may just have some bad light conditions, like the sun going behind the clouds during a shot string.

the other thing could be a weak battery.

luck,

murf
