Mosin + bayonet = more accurate and/or precise?

I know that shooting the Mosin with the bayonet on (or extended) makes them hit closer to POA, (at least mine did, before I mojo'd it) Has anyone tested to see if their groups got smaller as well?

Also, if the bayonet is a help to precision (and worth putting on, even if your mojo sight or scope has already taken care of being 8" off to the right and too high), any ideas or recommendations on how to take the thing on and off without stripping the blueing right off? Is grease better than oil? I am hesitant to grease up the front of the barrel, does it matter?

Last little question: Has anyone recrowned their Mosin or glass bedded it in their quest for accuracy? If you aren't handloading or shooting with a scope, would it make a significant difference?

Love my Mosin...:)

I have never found any of the Mosins I have to shoot straighter with the pigsticker. I have two now, one M38, pigstickerless, and a 91/30 with matching numbered tent stake, and I can't even get the thing on. With handloads, it gives me groups like this...

....without the shishkebob, so I am not too worried about it. Looks funny at the range with mounted Nazi deflator, anyway.

I've also never noticed an improvement with the bayonet on. The only exception is I've noticed a decline in accuracy when the M-44's bayonet is FOLDED. I believe this is because the bayonet pushes against the stock, which impinges the barrel. Most USSR Mosins were only roughly sighted in, and it's usually beneficial to start from scratch with them. A bayonet is not going to improve its accuracy under any circumstances.

Not so much an accuracy issue, but my 1944 Izhevsk M44 was grouping about 6" left with the bayonet folded. Deploying said bayonet shifted POI to about dead on.
