Mosin Nagant M44

Is $89.99 a good price for a Mosin M44? I've heard that Finn M39's are better. I'm considering getting a Mosin as they are so cheap, but I still have some reservations.

I would like to put a synthetic stock on it if I do get one, is this possible?
Also, is 7.62x54r hard to find or terribly expensive?

That's not a bad price for a Soviet M44. Most are OK shooters. The best carbines are the Polish M44's, but those are thin on the ground these days. If you've got the money get a Finn. There are quite a few aftermarket stocks you can swap the rifle into, though the military stocks are very nice and functional once you get used to them. 54R is easy to find and cheap in surplus or Russian factory.

That's pretty good money for a M44. If you want a Finn, get one. But they aren't nearly as cheap as other Mosins, typically $200+. Granted, the Finns will be better rifles.

Don't worry about ammo, it's all over the place and about as cheap as ammo can get these days.

I'd say the M-44 is a good pick, though the Finn will definitely be better. And while the ATI stocks are kinda chintzy, they work pretty well and are a bit lighter. Just don't throw away your wood stock, in case you ever want to sell.

For an entry level Mosin the Russian is a good one to start with its among the least expensive and more plentiful variants out there no to mention handy.

The Finns are scarcer and allot better in regard to accuracy fit and finish they took an old receiver and completely rebuilt it to a very high standard rifle one that is well worth what they can be found for.

IMO I would not sporterize either as both will only get rarer and more expensive as time goes by this is especially true regarding the Finnish rifles.

You can pick some up in the $69 dollar range with your C&R...otherwise usually if you don't have to pay shipping $89 is a good enough deal Why sweat $5 bucks or so?
