Mossberg .22

I have the chance to get my hands on an old Mossberg .22 rifle. It is a tube fed bolt action gun I would say around 50-60 years old. I don't know the model number and have only seen it once for about 20 seconds. The guy needs money and wants to sell it. I've never been much of a Mossy fan for any of their guns so I'm just wondering what it might be worth since i've never seen a gun like this. I want to be fair to him but I also want a good deal. by the way the gun looks to be in pretty good shape.

A quick thumbing through of the old gun book shows that any tube fed Mossy IN NEW CONDITION is worth somewhere between $95 and maybe as much as $145.

Some of them will shoot well, but there's a reason there isn't much (any?) demand for them. There was a whole boatload of them made and none of them say Winchester, Remington, Marlin or Savage

In conclusion, if you really need a .22 and can spare a few twenties, go for it.

The old bolt action Mossberg .22's were excellent shooters. As long as the bore is in good condition you can expect it to shoot with just about anything made today.
In the shops around here they usually bring $75 to $100, depending upon condition. If it's one of the target models with peep sights expect to pay $15 or $20 premium.

I own six Mossberg .22's - In my opinion they are great guns. My Mossberg 44US will shoot with any Winchester. The tube fed model could be any number of guns. I own a Model 146B which is one of the nicer tube-fed models and has one of the nicest walnut stocks I have seen. They just don't build guns like that anymore, at least not for a reasonable price. I paid $175 for the model 44 and that was a steal. The 146 was $130 a few years ago and I was happy to pay it. There is a Mossberg Collector's Association (I don't belong to it) so some people do value them. If the gun is in good shape and will feed rounds reliably from the tube then offer $100. Kind of depends on the model. If you get more info post it here and we can help you out with a more exact price. Also check out a gun values price guide - most bookstores have them.

How do the mag fed Mossberg 156k (or 150 something) models rate? What are they worth in good condition with a 4x scope?

Thanks Makarov. I told him to bring it to work with him tomorrow and I'll get a better look at it. I just haven't ever seen another Mossberg to compare it to. I love old .22s and have several. A model 514 Remington, the obligitory 10/22 and a Beretta Super Sport. I will post what I find.

are THE Mossberg .22 rifle experts. They can probably help you nail a fair price better than anyone else.

However, if the guy needs a quick answer you will have to go on your best instincts. If the rifle appears to be in good shape it should be worth anywhere from $100-150 easily. Especially if the sights are in good shape. If they are not then $100 should be your top offer since it will cost you to get replacement sights.

In general the Mossberg .22 rifles are really good buys. They were well-made rifles and seemed to shoot very well, better than their price indicated. The Havlins wrote a book, "Mossberg: More Gun For The Money" which gives a great outline of the history of the Mossberg Company.

I recently got a 151K that had been in an old velour lined canvas case for about 20 years! Once i have time to clean all that out,i bet itll be great.I wish i knew what makes the 151K a 151K?

Well I still havent gotten to see the gun. The guy who was going to sell it says that maybe he will just hang on to it after all. I can understand that. I would go without quite a lot of things before I sold a gun either. Oh well, got myself all excited about nothing

Thank you for posting the links for Mossy parts!! I have quietly been looking for some parts for a old 22 my wife inhereted from her favorite uncle. I've only shot the gun once but at 50' it was holding a very tight group.
