So, I was at my LGS and was looking at some rifles and came across the Mossberg .308 W/ Scope & Bi-Pod, Bolt Action
I am not 100% sure of what model it was but it was a synthteic stock if it helps any...

It seemed like a decent price at $400. I know there are good names and then better names out there for the money.

This just took my attention because it seems like a decent deal.

The main reason for this rifle would be hunting. I wouldn't mind it for the range either.....But more towards hunting.

So, For those of you who have owned it or still do, How is it? Any good? Worth the $400?

Should I look towards something else for that price range and get my own scope and so on?

the ones I've seen like you describe come with cheap trash scopes, BSA I think, not for sure, just another package deal for an inexperienced gun buyer....I would stay away from it.

Thats what I figure too. I'd stay away from it if I were the OP. The Big 5 near me has a lot of bargains like that with walmart or Barska scopes and a cheap bipod that they mark up.

Mossberg rifle

I bought a Mossberg 30-06 very similar to the rifle you (Josh45) mentioned.

The one I got is a ATR100 model. It came with a scope that I replaced with a Nikon, and no bipod. Although it's not beautiful, it is accurate. So, a hunting rifle that's not expensive, and is accurate looks like a good buy to me. By the way, the trigger is great.

I don't know the brand of the scope but after looking thru Mossberg websites, I noticed that they are combo deals. I know for the most part, That when you usually get stuff like that, It tends to be low end....

I guess I would be better off looking at something else. Thanks everyone. Appreciate it.

The Marlin X series rifle are the best bang for the buck right now IMHO. Take a look at one of those if you're looking for a bargain gun.

That Mossberg rifle had a few teething problems when new, but they have been ironed out - more than a year ago. And there are a bunch of Texas pig hunters who've been modding them. Do searches on Mossberg ATR and 4x4 and you should turn up some interesting tid bits.

They seem tough, accurate and shoot well. If the stock fits well and you like the balance, they are not bad at all. They are selling low to regain market share after the bad bolt pin issues early on. If they do get market share back, the price won't stay down forever.
