And I got delayed! Again! Oh well, I'll have it either thursday or friday.

It looks great, took it out and it is covered in packing grease or oil or something, there wasn't a blemish on it as far as I could see, I'll definitely be fondling it for hours this weekend though, hopefully I'll be able to make it out to the range. It has a CMMG lower, it is my first AR, and I am thrilled. Best $600 I've ever spent, easily. I think I've been bitten by the AR bug, and it will be hard for me to prioritize in the face of both rising prices and the coming elections. do I spend more on ammo before it gets any more expensive? or do I get an upper or two to go with it before the elections?

Does anyone make pistol caliber uppers that don't require a dedicated lower? maybe one that uses a magazine with a built-on magwell adapter?

Congrats - so I'm not the only one who gets delayed every time  ;)

Personally I can make ammo easier than I can a receiver, so.... :D

Sounds like another satisfied CMMG customer! Congratulations.

Nice package, eh? The one I got, an M4 gery with the 16" barrel looked brand new!Certainly the best money I ever spent!

Waiting for pics and range report.

Hmmm. It appears (no papers signed yet, so the chickens must go thus far uncounted) that I have a job post-graduation (yay!), so one of these might be my celebration purchase.

But see, I want both chrome-lined *and* a 16" barrel :) -- rather than 11.5" and a flash-hider. Maybe I'm silly, and non-chrome lined is fine, too. Heavily considering the 16" $570 one. I prefer the look of the heavy-barrel; any disadvantage to this, other than the weight? Any special advantage?

I've been debating between a CMMG bargain bin rifle, and building one up. but for less than most AR's, I can buy a stripped lower AND a bargain bin rifle...we'll see.

BTW, are the bargain bin rifles 5.56 or .223? I don't care about a lot of the details like chrome lining or twist ratio, but 5.56 is a must.

Colin.... Depends on what barrel is on the particular BB rifle you get. The racks of BB rifles at their last gun show here in SW MO had both .223 and 5.56 Nato chamberings.

Best,

Garands forever

Colin, it takes both (eta-what swampy said). I'm pretty sure I will be building on this one, since it will be some time before I have the funds to buy another AR. And I forgot to check, but they are either 1/7 or 1/9 twist, and I'm heavily leaning towards 1/7 there.

Timothy, yeah the 11.5+huge muzzle weight doesn't appeal to me at all either. an 11.5" SBR is one thing, one adorable little thing, but an 11.5" with six inches of worthless (except legally) steel hanging off the end is stupid to me. And there have been a couple threads from last week where people were talking about the pros and cons of chrome lined, chrome/moly (or moly/vanadium, I don't know) and stainless steel barrels. came out that unless you plan on shooting greater than 500-800 rounds without cleaning it, chrome lined isn't that big a deal.

And the M4 profile looks great in person. At first I was concerned about not using the front of the barrel to its fullest (front-sight wise), but nowthat i've seen it in person, I don't care I just want to go zero it!

Another happy bargain bin customer.Mine looked almost perfect when I recieved it,sounds like yours was as good.Have fun and post a range report when you get a chance.

What is that stuff it came coated with? And what should I do before firing it the first time? (other than loading it and being sure of my backstop)

The rifle is ideal, I feel very comfrotable that I didn't buy anything even remotely inferior, CMMG is to be praised for having this route open to bring in entry-level EBR shooters with a nice rifle.

Where's Zundfolge?

KCMarine- I don't have it yet! gotta wait till thursday or friday to pick it up, because of NICS sillyness. apparently they can't just make a footnote on my records or something, they have to go throught the entire flagging process every single time I buy. It's getting pretty obnoxious. I will though, maybe it'll be a good time to use the work D2X amd our portrait set-up...

CKAY- Other than being matching, what's the good news about getting a CMMG lower? I am pumped about it, and I'm really glad I didn't get a DPMS or Doublestar lower, but are they better at all than the other two? (even subjectively)

Where's Zundfolge? You talked about your CMMG for days, and convinced me (not that I needed to be) that they are a great buy!

I don't know. I had drank a bunch of cough syrup last night, I don't know anything about the different manufacturers. I guess I'm mostly glad it's all matching, even though I'm going to be getting other uppers anyway.

one of the lucky few with CMMG lower...congrats!

I'm also new to the EBRs. Got my CMMG a couple weeks ago. Looks perfect. Hope to get to shoot it this weekend. Rained the last two times I had time. Mine came with the Double Star lower. I commented about that over on AR15.com. Wondered if CMMG or DPMS would have been better. Was directed to this link.

If I read correctly ( and possibly I do not ), they are made by the same manufacturer. The only difference is the name stamped on the side.

Forged lowers are Forged lowers.. Unless your brand loyal and pay the extra price for the cool looking animal, etc, stamped on the side or the receiver.

I'm with kcmarine here

Glad you didn't get a DPMS??? Your Silly!
The DPMS and DoubleStar lowers are just as well made as the CMMG, but the reality is that with the CMMG lower the rifle is worth more if you were to resell it.

Sounds like you got a good one ... I look forward to pics.

And again, here's mine (so there's at least one gun pic in this thread :neener: ) I have since added a YMT fore grip to it, I'll have to snap a new pic.

Yeah I've got a pretty cheap replacement pistol grip from CDNN I want to try out, see if it fits well, if not I can live with USGI style quite easily until I get a MIAD.

The finish on it was perfect, when the shop gets called back I will have time to fully investigate it, but I suspect I will not find a single mark on it.

I hope more people read this and buy them, or not, because I have a couple friends I'd like to have more involved in shooting, and I think this is the way to get more noobs into EBR shooting.

Congrats!!

I have a CMMG Lower with a Colt Upper. It is a great lower, and I am saving for a complete CMMG.

I am not brand loyal, but I do want to get a lower from Anvil Arms with a nice Tux (the penguin) -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tux --laser engraved.

And one of the bargain basement guns, too :)
