The factory fixed sights are not right. The dot on the front post is way too low -- if I line up on the dots, I am about ten inches high at 15 yards. As a temporary fix, I blacked out the factory dot and used a paint pen to make my own dot where it corresponds to POI but this is a temporary fix and not very pretty.

My primary use for this pistol is range fun, but I will also use it as a farm/forest carry piece. So whatever sights I put on it, it still needs to be holsterable.

Adjustable would be nice.
Night sights would be nice.
Something that makes a contrast on the front post, and draws the eye there, would be nice.

I'm willing to send the pistol away for installation, but I'd be irritated if it took 6 months. There are a couple other minor gunsmithing things I'd like to have done in the same fell swoop.

So I'm looking for a recommendation on what sights to get, and where to get them installed. Any ideas?

Some random thoughts:

You shouldn't be lining up your sights by the dots. You should be getting a proper sight picture and working off of that. The dots are just there to help you get the sights in the general neighborhood of where they belong. I've found 3-dot sights to be a distraction, personally.

BTW, even "big name" gunsmiths won't take anywere NEAR 6 months for a simple sight swap... not that you need Richard Heinie to do a sight swap or anything. Those long times are for complete gun projects; less work = less time waiting (which only makes sense).

The best bet for you would probably be to get the Novak adjustable sights. They are supposed to be very rugged, and are available with tritium.

Personally, I prefer fixed sights and don't go for night sights anymore. But at least one Delta owner that I know of is very happy with them. If the gun was going to be a 100% range gun, I'd suggest Bo-Mars instead, but they are kind of snag-prone.

Sean, I understand what you are saying about the sight picture and I agree the dots can be distracting -- but they are especially distracting when, with the front and rear sights properly aligned, the middle dot is a full dot width below the other two.
It drives me nuts. It is as if the dots are trying to mess up my sight alignment.

I have no idea how to go about finding a gun smith. Can you suggest any, or any resources for finding them? (I read about your custom gun on your website - I guess that would be one person to look up).

The problems I'd like to have addressed are:
1) The sights, as mentioned (Novak was one of the ones I was looking at)
2) I am still getting the "slide locks back on a full mag" malfunction, and it's not me riding the slide stop. Both my (original colt factory) mags are doing this. Both have new Wolff springs in them.
3) The little spring housing that goes between between the safety and the slide stop fell off today at the range - possibly related to #2? It pops back in to place easily enough, but generally I find it disturbing when parts fall off my gun.

I like Novaks myself, but if you prefer adjustable, I'd go w/ MMC's (which are available in the night sight variety ;) )
