My First and New Sig... P226

just picked up my new sig p226! its the 9mm version. excellent weapon. the wife's mosquito will definately make for good practice. picked up the sig with night sights, 2 mags, the stl900 all for $785. i'll make sure i give range reports.

the only thing i think is kinda weird about it is the top of the reciever isnt matte black like the rest of the firearm. is that normal? not that i think it would detract from any kind of tactical situation or that i'm going to take it into one, just seemed like an interesting decision on the part of sig.

am i missing something, we can't see the top of the receiver with the slide in place...are you referring to the slide or the frame?

the slide is stainless steel. in a couple of your pictures, your gun looks like a two-tone and in the last one it looks like it was coated with Nitron. you frame looks like the normal hard anodized aluminum

the sig 226 is indeed a fine pistol. as for the difference in color, my sig 226 was black on the frame and greyish black on the slide so i think it is normal for there to be a slight color difference in the nitron models with stainless slides. i no longer have that sig. it was a great pistol, i just shoot the glock better! you did well on price for all you got. congratulations, and here's to never having to use it other than for fun at the range!

its just the nitron finish, i think the camera flash plays on that differently than the frame to make the color look different. looks all black in person. the discoloration i'm talking about is in picture three there, right on top of the chamber, dont know why i typed reciever. again, i'm thrilled, just wondering why sig chose to do it that way.

i had to sell my glock 19 to cover the funds for this, but the sig just points better for me, and the trigger is no comparison. on that note, i plan on another glock someday

ah...you're talking about the polished top of the chamber of the barrel...yup, Sigs have always been like that

Ahhhhh, this brings back memories ... I started out with a 1911 and Sig 226.

I loved my Sig 226. Compared to my Mil spec 1911, it was an engineering masterpiece. I sold it because I kept getting faster match stage times with my Glock 17/22. Now I wish I kept it.

range report

well, as previously stated, i am new to pistol shooting, but here are the sig's first two groups, at 12yds. i was really happy with how it shot, miles better for me than the glock. trigger is outstanding. by the end of the day i was doing better than i've ever done with a pistol. the two pictures are the first and second groups.

oh and the wifes mosquito was excellent. first 75 rounds, not a hiccup. great value i say. really great to see her shoot a gun she picked and enjoys.

Glad you like the 226. I like mine a lot and they are great shooting pistols. Don't fret too much about loosing the Glock because you definitely traded up.

Very good choice my friend. SIGS are great guns as I myself have 2 (latest edition P226 Blackwater Tactical and a P226 X-Five Comp). Their customer service is beyond satisfactory. Rest assured that that gun can, when the time comes, be handed to your kids and still be at great working condition.

Congrats on the new semi-two-tone..

Hint: once you get your mags fully loaded, leave them that way, takes about 2 weeks for the mag springs to relax and become fully-hand-loadable..

can anyone recommend an owb clip on type holster for the mosquito, if they make such a thing? for the 226 i'm looking at high noon's bare asset.

+ 1 for the Uplula. I have a 228 and think the world of it as well! Carried it as a duty weapon for several years before the Glock change over.

I bout the Uplula about two or three years ago and really like it. In fact, shortly after I bought my first one, I bought a second one (just in case the first one broke). I've used the first Uplula to load about 15,000 rounds to date and it hasn't broken. One of the few items out there that actually works as advertised.
