Use and modify as you wish

Wisconsin retains it’s ban on citizens carrying concealed weapons for self-defense unlike Virginia which allows it’s citizens to apply for and receive permits to conceal weapons, except on the campuses of Virginia’s Universities. Universities in Virginia like the State of Wisconsin rely on gun free zones to prevent gun violence. These zones are supposed to protect people from what happened at the campus of Virginia Tech on Monday April 16th.

Just last year people in Virginia tried to get the Virginia legislature to address the issue of not allowing concealed weapons on campus. The bill to remove restrictions from permit holders carrying on state-supported college campuses died, due in no small part to opposition from Virginia Tech itself.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker put it this way after it became obvious that the bill would not pass: "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Well feeling safe and being safe are two very different things. The thinking that by passing a law and making something illegal is going to prevent the actions of those with the intentions of Cho Seung-Hui has got to stop. How many things have we as a society declared illegal? If unsafe actions are illegal why can I read everyday about someone doing things they should not be?

My thoughts truly go out to all of those affected by Cho Seung-Hui's evil actions. But not even senseless, brutal murder justifies taking away the rights of the law-abiding. There will be calls for gun control. There will be those who put the blame on a tool with no will of it’s own. I call for a different look at the problem, one with real results not feel good ones, how do we stop a monster like Cho Seung-Hui who will not follow any law we make from murdering helpless victims?
