I received my new Kahr MK40 Elite today. I ordered this firearm sight unseen and I cannot express how pleased I was when I saw it. It is so cute. I wa afraid it would be too boxy for me since the Kahrs tend to be very square. It is actually a very attractive as well as very compact firearm. it is about the same size as my Walther PPK but with the added umph of being a .40 S&W instead of a standard .380 acp pistol. I cannot wait to go to the range toomorrow with it.

I have posted a pic of it alongside my PPK and in my hand.

It is cute. I'm interested in how it shoots. The .40S&W might sting a little in that small a package. Keep us posted.

So how was the range visit?

I enquired after a MK9 today but my friendly gun store guy steered me towards the CW9.

Trying to work out if I'll be getting the CW9 or a Sig P232, or if I should still even consider the MK9. It does seem far too small for my big hands. Both the P232 and CW9 grips were perfect.

I was disappointed to find that the H&K P2000SK grip was also too small, I had high hopes for that gun.

Por favor...

Hey PlayboyPenguin,

I've been looking for a pocket auto that's "just right" for concealed carry, but the Walther PPK I got for that purpose turned out to be too big for my pocket. Since you own both, I'd really appreciate it if you could post a photo of them side-by-side!

Edit -- Oops! I should have just looked at your pic! So it's really about the same "size" as the Walther, although its dimensions are technically a bit smaller. Do you think that the Kahr would be easier, or about the same, to carry every day? I'm trying to decide between the Kahr and a Seecamp for an everyday CCW.

congrats on the new gun. I believe you will like it even more when you shoot it! I have a kahr k-40 and it is awesome. it is my everyday carry gun, i carry it in a leather don hume paddle, and i can't say enough good things about the pistol or the holster. it shoots great has great sights that are easy to pisk up, and get on target really fast, fits my hand great especially with the houge grips, and i love the finish. i wish the magazines were cheaper, but besides that it is an awesome package!
oh yeah i almost forgot, i love the trigger.

I had an MK40.....great gun but its a handfull. Mine was uber-reliable....never had a failure one during my ownership of the gun.

Due to the small size I had to exclusively use the magazine with the extension....

If your new MK40 is like my new MK9, you might want to Loctite the grip screws before you hit the range. Hope you're as pleased with yours as I am with mine.

Having just purchased a used (truly like new) MK9, I'm really pleased to hear all of these positive comments on Kahrs in general. I haven't received mine yet, but I'm looking forward to it even more now!

PlayboyPenguin, be sure to let us know how it handles at the range!

My current EDC piece is an MK9 Elite98.

I used to own an MK40 Elite98 and it was a wonderful pistol ... I really miss it (Rule #1 NEVER sell a gun you like).

Avoid 135gr ammo as I had nothing but problems with 135gr (couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and the only function problems I ever had were with 135gr Corbon ... jammed it up so tight I had to take a rubber mallet to it :what: ) ... also didn't like 180gr that much either (I've found in most of the .40s I've owned over the years that 155gr-165gr is the best ... most accurate ... "feels" best, etc).

now get you some good leather and you'll have a friend for life :)
My MK9 rides in an HBE Leatherworks DC Special. Very comfy.

I predict the Walther is going to spend a LOT of time in the safe ;)

Oh yeah, and that Elite trigger; its buttah!

I had shot a few Kahrs, including a friend's all day-every day pocket PM40. I had seen him run an IDPA match with it and couldn't believe he could get such good times and hits with something so light and powerful.
I knew I was going to like the trigger and I figured it would be good for the motorcycle jacket pocket.
What I didn't expect is how well I shoot the thing. After the first couple of sessions, I took it to the club range with three of my beloved .38 snubs and did some comparing.
Against the Colt Magnum Carry, Smith 940, and older Colt Detective Special (the most beloved of all, with the best small revolver trigger I've ever pulled), the MK40 came out way ahead on accuracy and at equal speed. All that, and a caliber that begins with a "4".
I even repeated the exercise a week later since I had a hard time believing myself.
It is with a great deal of anguish that I have to confess that I'm more accurate and faster with the Kahr than my wonderful Colt.
Ow.
Bill
