So I have a few manuals that show loads for the 6.5x55 with IMR 4831 & a 140gr Hornady SP Interlock, but they vary from 38grs- 49grs of powder. That seems like quite a range to me. I will be shooting these in a Tikka T3.

What powder charge have you guys had good luck with in this combo? Hoping to find a good accurate load.

I loaded up some at 43grs and was going to take them out later this week. That seems to be a starting load or mid range load depending on the source.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Greebe,

Here's one for the Swede 6.5 X 55 140 gr. jacketed bullet from Lee with a start of 38.4 grs and a MAXIMUM of 43.5 grs of IMR 4831, for velocities of 2256 and 2530 fps
pressure in CUP of 45800. 3.00" OAL

I tried IMR 4831 for a bit some years ago and as I recall loaded about 46gr in a case with Hornady 140 gr SPs. I found H4831 to work better and R22 to do better yet with 140 gr bullets.
Lots of modern data on Hodgdons web site for both IMR and Hodgdon powders and I`d used theirs if loading with IMR.

You'll find most of the loads offered for the 6.5x55 are tailored for the pressure limits of the '96 Swedish Mausers.

Modern actions can push the envelope a bit and show the true potential of this great cartridge.
I would use the www.hodgdon.com site as a reference and work from there.

I personally use Rel-22 with 140gr bullets.

Thanks for the info guys. Right now I only have the IMR4831 and can't find RL-22 at any of the shops here. So IMR4831 it is for now.

So probably the ones I have loaded at 43grs are good but I could try a little less as well.

Those of you who have used IMR 4831, what would be a good charge to obtain the best accuracy.

Thanks
Greebe
